I have a Compaq Presario CQ57-339wm. It has an Intel Celeron B800 / 1.5 GHz ( Dual-Core )CPU. What I am wondering is, does this mean that it is 1.5GHz x 2, which would make it a total of 3.0GHz or is it 1.5GHz total. I could never understand this, could someone please explain this to me. Also I have heard that this laptop can not be upgraded to a more GHz CPU. is this true. and if not, what would be the most GHz's I can install. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. I remember another guy on this forum (staff? former staff? it was a while ago) explained it like a newspaper delivery boy riding his bike down the street. He's riding at 10mph.

Single Core: As he rides along at 10mph he uses one arm to throw newspapers to the houses on one side. Then he'll have to ride the street again (the other way) to deliver to the houses on the other side.

Dual Core: He rides along at 10mph (same speed here) but instead he is using both arms to throw newspapers to each side of the street, all on the same pass (quite a talented kid). So a dual core is much more efficient, even though it's still only 10mph. This way he has done both sides in one pass and therefore saves on time by being able to move on to the next street straight away.

As a general rule laptops are not upgradeable. That being said, as an IT tech I did once upgrade a laptop processor, but it was such a mission and all came down to compatibility (which is not easy to find out). HP Compaq generally would not have a list of supported processors for your laptop so anything you tried to upgrade to in there would be a guess at best and most likely wouldn't work (especially if the BIOS is locked).
