Hello awesome good karma Geek to Go folks.

I've gone through the steps you've listed (a number of times) and still having trouble with spyware running rampant. :tazz:

It seems each time I reboot or or the other takes over.

I used the following applications as recommended:
Ad-aware
CWShredder
Spybot with DSO fix
Trend House call (which found about 25 trojan horses! I had no idea)
I do have SP2 installed already
Hijack

I do have Norton Antivirus and Firewall. I noticed also, I recently upgraded to 2005, but I find that the 2004 icons remain on my desktop until a number of the above mentioned applications run. However, when I do open them, they open them in 05.

Problems:

I'm consistantly getting the ads1.revenue.net popups
Aurora
Norton Firewall stopping: thnall1ac.exe and xpsrzuhuul.exe from trying to connect to the internet (but even when I say to always block, it continues to pop up).

Here's my hijack log:

Welcome to GTG.

Could you repost your HijackThis log? The problem is the formatting. Make sure that Word Wrap is disabled (turned OFF) in Notepad before you copy and paste the log here.

Yes, much better now. Thanks :tazz:

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Download Ewido Security Suite at http://www.ewido.net/en/download/ and install it. Update to the newest definitions. If you have trouble updating, you may do it manually at http://www.ewido.net...wnload/updates/ Do NOT the Ewido scan yet.

Please download Nailfix at http://www.noidea.us...050515010747824 Unzip it to the desktop but do NOT run it yet.

Download ETRemover and unzip it. Don't run it yet.

The Temp folders should be cleaned out periodically as installation programs and hijack programs leave a lot of junk there. Download CleanUp! http://cleanup.stevengould.org/ (Alternate Link if main link don't work - http://www.greyknigh...spy/CleanUp.exe ) and install it. Don't run it yet.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Save the log from the Ewido scan so that you can post it later.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://red.clientapp...rch/search.html
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://red.clientapp...://my.yahoo.com
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://red.clientapp....//www.yahoo.co
F2 - REG:system.ini: Shell=Explorer.exe C:\WINDOWS\Nail.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [checkrun] C:\windows\system32\elitepmz32.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [smlcufd] c:\windows\system32\hrfrozf.exe
O23 - Service: System Startup Service (SvcProc) - Unknown owner - C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe (file missing)

Close all open windows except for HijackThis and click Fix Checked.

Delete these if found:

c:\windows\system32\hrfrozf.exe
C:\windows\system32\elitepmz32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\xpsrzvhuul.exe

Run ETRemover.exe now.

Run CleanUp! and click on CleanUp! button. Once it's done, you may click the Close button. When asked if you want to logoff, choose Yes.

Restart your computer.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the results here along with the new HijackThis log. Also post the Ewido scan results here.

I'm having trouble finding the Ewido log. Is that one imperative?

Thanks again.

Yes, it could be unless you remember what the scan said. Was Ewido able to remove ALL the files found to be infected? If unsure, we need that log. Where did you save it to? You probably can't find it because it's under the Administrator account. Just go into the Admin account folder and open the file. For example, let's say you saved the Ewido log in the desktop. Then just go to My Computer->C: Drive->Documents and Settings->Administrator->Desktop and open that up. Post that log here.

Delete these two files:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\MEGASE~1.DLL
C:\WINDOWS\System32\TDBO.DLL

I'll just take a look at your Ewido log before giving you the green light to go :tazz:

Bugger, I've looked everywhere and can't find it. Would I have had to explicitly saved it when it ran or would it have autosaved? I'm pretty sure it was able to delete all infected files it found.

Should I run it again perhaps? And if so, should it be in safe mode again?

Sorry about that.

Were you able to delete the two files though?

I think you have to save that Ewido log. OK, run it again in Safe Mode. Make sure to save it. Boot back into Normal Mode and get that log from the Administrator account.

Yes, I was able to delete the two files you specified.

I just reran ewido and wqw, there were like 32 infected files found. One thing I wonder though, when I ran it the first time, I was not logging in in Safe mode as the administrator. I was just a general user in safe mode. H

Here's the log from today's run:

Were you able to login to safe mode using another username? Perhaps your normal username? I don't think it should matter though, but I guess it worked now :tazz:

Your log is clean.

Turn off system restore by right clicking on My Computer and go to Properties->System Restore and check the box for Turn off System Restore. Click Apply and then OK. Restart your computer and uncheck the same box to enable System Restore.

Make sure to get the latest updates for Windows and Internet Explorer at http://v5.windowsupd...t.aspx?ln=en-us.

To help prevent future spyware installations/infections, please read the Anti-Spyware Tutorial and use the tools provided.

Are there any problems now? If not, you should be set to go.
