A question....just for my education.....i can't tell the differences between the memory by looking at the specs...for example, the recommended memory ends in GSR but there is another ending in GMX...i know they are different...but i can't tell when you would use one or the other or what the differences are....this goes for looking at other memory as well....

Happy to answer but will need the Brand/model, gsr does not tell me who's RAM it is.

Besides your two new HDDs, can you give us a list, brand/model, of all the HDDS that you have available to install inside the computer.?

Thanks.

Gday.

They are the same base board, slight difference with the USB and the extreme has some added features, If you think you would not miss them the Pro4 will work for your build.

2 (x16/0 or x8/x8)
Realtek ALC898 Just that bit better
1 x Dr. Debug with LED
1 x eSATA 6Gb/s

hi iammykyl

have now purchased all additional components per
http://pcpartpicker.com/p/PHW0

once they are all here, i will let you know (4 to 7 days)....

the hdd's i have available for the new pc:
inside the machine now:
the two 1 tb seagates (only one of these is currently connected because i could only use 2 sata slots of the motherboard)and
1 500 gb WD5000 AAKS cav blue

additional hdds for possible use
another 500gb WD5000 AAKS cav blue
160 gb samsung HD160JJ/P
80 gb WD 800JD caviar SE

currently i am using 600 gb of storage for images etc spread across a number of hdds....i could probably reduce that a a bit....

pc that i am now using that will be freed up.... has a 1 tb HITACHI HDS721010CLA332 hdd

Thanks for the info. Working out the best way to configure the drives.

In the meantime, not sure if I gave you a How To Build, so here is the link. Thanks to Troy & Artellos.

Great news.
Did you read the links given in Reply #117? Have you any other questions?

Save any Data on the PC, before proceeding, to another hard drive..
Remove everything from the case except the PSU and Optical drive. Put a small piece of masking tape on the side of the existing 1TB drive, label OS.\\ When you start to install the HDDs. Make a pen and paper note of which drive is installed in which bay.
Make only 3 connections until the system is up and running.
Connect the 1TB OS drive to SATA3-#0-Gray.
Connect the Top Hot Swap bay to SATA3-#A0-Gray.
Connect the Optical drive to SATA3-#A1-Gray.

At first Boot, enter BIOS, check time and date is correct. then go to storage and check AHCI is enable, go exit, save changes and exit.

Perform a clean install of the OS.
