Can I use Fix It for any program that I am having difficulty uninstalling?

It should have fixed any problem there was with Windows Installer so you should be right but you can download and use it again.

If I didn't have a virus on my laptop, what was causing all the problems?

No nothing that I or the scans could see. Just a some conflict going on with your security programs and, I think, a bit of corruption. Seems all fixed now.
