How is touch input ported from padfone 2 tablet station to the phone?

The first gen Padfone had both micro hdmi out and micro usb cables.. It's imaginable that the phone's hardware could listen to the touch input from the tablet station, through the usb port.

How is that done in the Padfone 2, or Padfone Infinity? Both of them just have an MHL port..

This has been bugging me for a while now. Hope the gurus here throw some light on this..
