So I have another post on here about an N5110 laptop I'm working on. I have the old and presumably bad mobo with me now. I'm thinking about taking the new good CPU and installing it in the old mobo just to see if that'll work because this new mobo (same model) doesn't seem to work. Think there's a risk I'll fry my good CPU doing this?

Hello foxdogface

Bit of a dilemma for you as how do you know if it is the CPU or MB that is bad, that goes for the old MB/CPU and the replacements.

Well the CPU is brand new. Both mobo's show the same results when I hook them up. Starts up for a few seconds, no signal to monitor (or external). No post errors either. Could it be that the motherboard isn't getting enough power? On the n5110 there is a smaller board that it connects to for AC VGA and one usb 2.0.

No POST error is normally a power or MB issue.

The smaller board sounds like a daughterboard and would cause your issues if it was bad.

Thanks for the reply!

this is the part in question. And I agree the only end I can come to is that somehow either motherboard is getting enough energy to complete startup. I'll get the replacement in and post my results. (I really hope this is the last part I have to get)

You are welcome foxdogface :thumbsup:

Hopefully the replacement board will indeed resolve the issue for you, good luck.

It wasn't the case. The replacement daughter board did not work. What has me is that I've basically swapped out all essential components and I'm still at square one.

It does, It shuts down like it would if it never booted to the OS.

Things to try if you have not done so already;

When you power up keep tapping the F2 key to see if you can get into the BIOS without the notebook shutting down.

Do the following three please to see if there is any change in the behavior.

Remove the Ram and power up.

Remove the HDD and power up.

Remove the CD/DVD drive and power up.

Inspect the power on button board and ribbon for signs of damage.
