I have an alienware m14x and recently had to restore it completely. The audio was going to my Vizio before restore and now just hooked it up and its not. And i can't for the life of me fix it and I'm really good at fixing technical issues. this one is just being a stick in the mud. I have tried re-installing drivers and updating them and nothing is working. AUDIO.png

I have my TV hooked up when i took this image and as you can see in the audio devices it shows not plugged in how do i fix it?

Welcome to Geeks to Go

Sorry you have waited for a reply - longer than we would wish to be the case.

As a starting point what is shown on the other devices listed in device manager - on your screenshot please.

It is an unknown device. I called dell an it has to do with windows 8 not accepting the hardware for one of my screen sensors

Go to the site again

http://www.dell.com/...ware-m14x-r2/pd

ON that SITE ONLY disable your anti-virus and firewall - some AV`s and Firewalls - are good at causing problems with driver downloads and installations, they MAY corrupt the files

download the drivers - save them. Do not install them.

Go device manager, right click and uninstall the drivers for the Nvidia 650M

REBOOT and then follow instructions for installing new driver - basically expand file you saved and simply click as directed.

When that has completed reboot again and uninstall the

Creative Sound Blaster Recon3Di High-Definition 5.1 Audio with THX TruStudio Pro Software(Standard)
2.1 Speaker configuration with Subwoofer
Audio Powered by Klipsch®
7.1 Digital Audio out using HDMI out connection.

Reboot and do the same

Do not allow windows 8 to install the drivers on the found new hardware - you take control and install them.

After the sound driver reboot again and recheck the audio situation.

GET your drivers from the alienware site

If that driver does not work for the Nvidia try this one from Nvidia

full guide and installation

http://uk.download.n...lease-notes.pdf

Driver is here but you will have to set to required 600m series and O/S

http://www.nvidia.co...hql-driver.html

HOWEVER please note that the one on the last link is as always only a reference driver and you should as explained there, use the one from the computer manufacturer.

I am signing off as I am in the UK

Also when you have done that, if it still does not work check this

Video but no audio

Check the display list for the problem connection on the NVIDIA Control Panel->Set Up Digital Audio page.

Will pick up topic about 1600 UK time for your reply and further help if needed.

Good Luck with it

Would you please clarify for me

1. Did the Alienware come with Windows 8 installed or have you upgraded it

2. Did the sound ever work on HDMI on WINDOWS 8 - if you have upgraded it

3. What please was the reason for the reinstall and was this a reinstall of 8 - or do you not mean a reinstall as you in fact said

I have an alienware m14x and recently had to restore it completely

restore, could you please clarify what that was eg. restore to factory condition or what

I have posted separately so that you cannot miss it, if you have already read my last

Are you sure you have the right drivers.

The Dell site shows the graphics as the Nvidia 650M and the audio as the CM Sound

NOT the Realtek and the 555m that you show

On the Dell site there is the M14x and the M14x R2 - are you sure you have the right one selected.

From the dell site

Nvidia 307.17 Win 8 64b for Alienware Notebooks

Recommended 12/12/2012 307.17, A01
  • Vendor Version : 307.17
  • Dell Version : A01
Previous Versions Description Updated Win 8 driver Updated Win 8 driver

and

Creative CT9570 Recommended 26/10/2012 6.0.100.2039, A00

all above is for the M14x R2

whereas the M14x

lists Realtek and Nvidia 555 which you have listed

HOWEVER and this is the important point - it does NOT list Windows 8 drivers for the M14x - only for the M14x R2

So in summary which do you have please.
