Oh sorry. Yes it's worked perfectly fine before! But I'm not entirely sure of my wireless manufacturer. I think it's probably HP.

No, HP doesn't make wireless devices. It will be Intel, Qualcom or some other manufacturer.

Open Device Manager (Windows key+R, type devmgmt.msc and press Enter).
Expand Network Adapters.

What is shown for your wireless device? As I said, if it's Intel, try the link I gave you above. Also try connecting with a Ethernet Cable and doing a couple Windows Updates via Control Panel.

Ok so, I went to the device manager and opened up my "network adapters" and it listed
"Intel 82579LM gigabit network connection
Intel centrino ultimate-N 6300 AGN"

I tried following the instructions in the link you posted but I couldn't find any Intel PROset programs on my computer.

I tried Windows Update but as it requires a functioning Internet connection it was unsuccessful and froze my computer as soon as I connected.

I also don't have really anywhere to connect an Ethernet cable to as most wifi connections I try to use are in public spaces (libraries, fast food chains, etc.)

Intel Centrino is your wireless.

Try the Intel Driver Update Utility, see if it loads a new/better wireless driver for you.

Use Internet Explorer and I think you may need Java installed as well.

Ok so turns out the problem was that I had a Trojan in my computer and it would make windows explorer completely unresponsive whenever I connected to something. So I pretty much just had to reinstall windows 7 to when I first got the computer, along with all my drivers. But thanks so much for your help Ztruker :) you have the patience of a saint!

... and you have the Resistance of a ????? (can't think of any good allegory, rats!).
I'm just glad you got it fixed.

How did you determine you have a Trojan?

Hi all.

Just found this topic on here, I know it's from last year but I'm having a similar problem.

My laptop freezes regualry when I go on the internet, specifically yahoo mail (which is rubbish and slow anyway), and facebook.  The loading circle thing stops and the mouse pointer won't even move.  Usually it comes back to life after 5-10 minutes but often I have to switch off with the power button.  Bit of a worry.

It's a Toshiba Equium laptop, 2gb RAM, erm, maybe 6 years old (no idea really, bought second hand), and I'm running Firefox and Vista.

I've uninstalled everything I can that I don't need or use, done various defrags and use Glary Utilities and AVG to clean everything up.  I'm on Talk Talk (which is slow anyway).

I can't buy a new laptop, and as for reformatting, wouldn't know how, and would worry I'd just wreck everything.

Any suggestions much appreciated.

Craig
