I have some 3.0 GB & some 6.0 GB SATA Ports.

If I plug a 3.0 device into a 6.0 port or vice versa, will it damage either the device or the port?

I am assuming that a 3.0 SATA CD/DVD will run properly at 3.0 GB in a 6.0 Port.

I am assuming that a 6.0 SATA Hard Disk device will run properly at 3.0 GB in a 3.0 Port.

Due to the number of devices & Ports, I will have to do one or the other of the above.

On rare occasions you may get functionality issues but not damage to the MB.

SATA 6 will clock backwards when connected to a SATA 3 port and a SATA 3 device will function at 3 Gb/s in a SATA 6 Gb/s port.
