No Idea which information is accurate at the moment and that is why I suggested running the Crucial program as that will tell you what your best option is, fingers crossed for you that the present board will hold 8GB of Ram.

Glad you got your card and I will look out for your next update when you are ready.

You are welcome BTW

Gday.

With the MB you suggested will I still need to purchase the disk?

Unfortunately, yes, new MB, new new disk as yours is not transferable.

this is Phillpow2's selected MB on the ASrock site, > http://www.asrock.co...l=G41M-VS3 R2.0 Download User Manual, CPU support list and RAM QVL..
Should the first MB become unavailable, there are two others to look at, > http://www.asrock.co...Model=G41M-GS3

A suggestion. Buy a new MB and windows Disk, Transfer your CPU and RAM to new MB, install the new Windows7 64 bit OS, as a stand alone MB it will give bettter performance than the one you have at the moment. Your would have a fully working rig.

Upgrade. install you new GPU, (not sure if you have, or are getting it?)
In a couple of months, purchase and install the 8GB of RAM.

In addition, you would need some new thermal insulation paste and cleaning fluid to remove the old paste from the CPU and bottom of the heat sink.

Ok, thank you.

Unfortunately I spent half of my birthday money on the video card so I'll purchase this MB and the disk when I can.
Thank you for all your help!

(MB is also my favourite colour which is a plus ;))

Just checking out all my options, is it possible to purchase a second hand motherboard that comes with a Windows 7 disk?

I don't know whether this one would be compatible for me but just for example:

Yes, that one is not suitable for your other hardware and finding a second hand board that exactly matches the 3 possible options for the new MB are zillons to one.

I don't want to shoot your idea down. That looks like a genuine Disk, but there are so many fakes, even in sealed packaging and you can activate them with Microsoft and then, 1 month or nine months later a little notice pops up on your computer telling you that your copy of windows is not genuine. So you buy at your own risk.

Plus you don't get a cpu, cpu heatsink and fan and no memory.

It's a bare boned second hand mobo that would cost more to get the bits for than it's worth.

Okay :)
I agree and will probably stick to buying a new one. I have the money in gift vouchers on Amazon for the motherboard so I guess I could purchase that and just keep it until I have enough for the disk :)

Did you run the Crucial tool and if so what did it suggest the maximum Ram upgrade was.

It suggested an upgrade of a "4GB kit (2GBx2)" but I already have 2 sticks of 2GB so not sure how that is an upgrade?

The reason that I suggested running the tool was to determine if your MB would accept 8GB of Ram as was suggested at the link that I provided http://www.findlapto...-specs-005h715/

I think I'll probably believe that test, it does say I've reached maximum RAM. Not sure whether I should risk getting a 4 stick and hope it works.

I agree as all other information that I can find states 4GB max, an example http://h30434.www3.h...5d/td-p/1793071

It was worth checking though as it could have saved you a lot of time, trouble and cash :(
