I did all of the stated in the stickies, yet my Nortan Antivirus keeps telling me about rdriv.

http://img29.echo.cx...untitled9ex.jpg

I also use spysweeper, and it helped me nuke alot of my spyware, but when I do regedit I find some very bad programs, such as Rot.Exe and other things.

Here is my hijack this log.

Please tell me if this post is formated wrong

Please follow all instructions exactly as specified. I would advise printing them out so you're sure to follow all instructions.

First, I need you to right click on the desktop and go to New > Folder - click on it and name it whatever you want. Locate HiJackThis.exe on the desktop right click on it and go to "cut", then go into the folder you just made and click "paste". This is to ensure backups are saved and accessible.

Copy the below instructions (until you get to the purple text). Paste them into notepad and save it for use while in Safe Mode. This is important because it has to be done exactly in order for this to work

I need you to reboot into Safe Mode. You can do this by restarting your computer and continually tapping the F8 key until a menu appears. use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter.

After getting into Safe Mode, Go to Start > Run type in:

cmd

Click OK.

A black window will open up.

Copy the below line, exactly, and paste it into the black window:

attrib -h -r -s C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys

Hit Enter.

When it goes to the next line, copy the below line, exactly, and paste it into the black window:

del C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys

Hit Enter.

Then type exit

[END OF INSTRUCTIONS TO COPY FOR SAFE MODE]

Reboot into normal mode.

Open Notepad, and copy everything inside the code box below (Starting with REGEDIT4) and paste it into a new notepad file. Go up to "File" > "Save As...". A box will open up. Click the drop-down menu to change the "Save As Type" to "All Files". Save it as rdriv.reg on your Desktop. Make sure there is NO blank line above REGEDIT4

Locate rdriv.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

After the "merged successfully" prompt, please do the following:

* Download the Killbox by Option^Explicit.

* Save it to your desktop.

* Run Killbox.exe.

* Select "Delete on Reboot".

* Copy the file names below to the clipboard by highlighting ALL of them then press CTRL + C

C:\WINDOWS\system32\winpadg.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\snapple.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System32\mousehs.exe
C:\WINDOWS\pwnsvc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\svcproc.exe
C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys
C:\WINDOWS\ItunesMusic.exe
C:\WINDOWS\wkssvc.exe

* Return to Killbox, go to the File menu, and choose "Paste from Clipboard".

* Click the red-and-white "Delete File" button. Click "Yes" at the Delete on Reboot prompt. Click "No" at the "PendingRenameOperation" prompt. If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.

After your computer reboots, Run HijackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

Close HiJackThis.

Now, make sure your firewall is on. Make sure you can turn it off then turn it back on and that nothing is greyed out
Also, Make sure your Anti-Virus program is working properly - you can turn on and off auto-protect, etc.

Download, install, and run CleanUp!

Download Ewido Security Suite
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be a big E icon on your desktop, double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.

Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Reboot into Safe Mode, you can do this by restarting your computer, then contiunally tapping F8 until a menu appears. Use your up arrow key to highlight Safe Mode, then hit enter. Then, run Ewido.
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Reboot into normal mode.

Then, run this online virus scan:
ActiveScan

Save the results from ActiveScan.

I need you to post the log from Ewido, the log from ActiveScan, and a new HiJackThis log into this topic.

Uhh several problems, one of them my fault and the rest completely out of my hands.

I forget to put attrib -h -r -s C:\WINDOWS\system32\rdriv.sys into Command Prompt.

Then, after I added rdriv.reg and rebooted, my system first did that thing where it scans your hard drive and restored somethings.

And now, my ewido will not update.

Shall I cancel my firewall and try again?

What do you mean your system scanned your hard-drive and restored some things? What scanned your computer and what was restored?

You must follow all instructions exactly as specified otherwise this will not work. This little bugger is what we call a rootkit and is an extremely nasty worm. They are not easy to get out of your system, but it makes it even harder when steps are skipped. Please begin again, even with the reg. I'm not sure why Ewido won't update, but I would advise uninstalling the Ewido you have now and download it when you get done with the rest of the instructions that come before it.

What I mean by scan is that thing that happens right before you reboot, before the Windows Welcome screen comes up, which happens once in a while. Some steps when I tried to redo where impossible albeit since rdriv.sys was deleted.

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below services:

Workstation Service Library
Mouse Hardware Sync (mousehs)
Windows Update Service
System Startup Service (or SvcProc)

When you find them, double-click on each. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button (if they are already stopped, that's fine just continue), then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled. Now hit Apply and then Ok.

Run HiJackThis. Click on "None of the above, just start the program". Now, click on the "Config" button (bottom right), then click on "Misc Tools", then click on "Delete an NT Service" a window will pop up. Enter the below item into that field (copy and paste):

Microsoft Locator Service

Click ok.

It should pull up information about the service, if it asks an 'Are you sure' questions click YES, when it asks if you want to reboot now click NO

Do the exact same thing for these items:

mousehs
SvcProc
Windows Update Service

After you enter "Windows Update Service" this time click YES to reboot now.

You're welcome, but we're not quite done yet, almost!

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below services:

AOL Instant Messanger (AIM) (this does not belong to AOL, this belongs to that worm)

When you find them, double-click on it.

AIM

Click ok.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click YES.

When that's done, please post another HiJackThis log to remove a couple of other items that need to go.

By the way, when a hourglass appears next to my mouse for no reason whatsoever, as if I am just idling there, does that mean I still have it?

Actually, your log is clean!

But you need to do this:

RIGHT-CLICK HERE and Save As (in Internet Explorer, it's "Save Target As") in order to download the fixrdriv.reg file. Save it to your deskop.

Locate fixrdriv.reg on your Desktop and double-click on it. When it asks if you want to merge with the registry, click YES.

And, I do see that you have McAfee and Norton both - that WILL cause problems. You need to uninstall one of them by going to Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove programs and remove everything for McAfee or remove everything for Norton/Symantec. Having 2 virus scans will not only slow your computer, but it also does NOT protect your computer better.

Yea Nortan gave me a warning about that, but I canceled the installation of McAfee, yet it is still on my computer. I cant delete it for the process is running currently. Also, it is unable to be uninstalled, it says the uninstall file cannot be found.

Should I reboot in SafeMod and rip out the McAfee folder in progarm files?

Actually it's tougher to get rid of McAfee than that unfortunately...but I can help you there...

Go to Start->Run and type "Services.msc" (without quotes) then hit Ok
Scroll down and find the below service:

McAfee.com McShield (McShield)
McAfee SecurityCenter Update Manager (mcupdmgr.exe)
McAfee.com VirusScan Online Realtime Engine (MCVSRte)

When you find them, double-click on each one. In the next window that opens, click the Stop button, then click on properties and under the General Tab, change the Startup Type to Disabled.

McShield

Click ok.

It should pull up information about the service, when it asks if you want to reboot now click NO.

Then do the same for these items:

mcupdmgr.exe
MCVSRte

After entering the last one click YES to the reboot now question.

After reboot, run HijackThis. Place a check next to the following items and click FIX CHECKED:

O3 - Toolbar: McAfee VirusScan - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - c:\progra~1\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsshl.dll
O16 - DPF: {4ED9DDF0-7479-4BBE-9335-5A1EDB1D8A21} (McAfee.com Operating System Class) - http://download.mcaf...90/mcinsctl.cab

Close HiJackThis.

Reboot into Safe Mode and delete the following folders:

C:\Program Files\McAfee
C:\Program Files\McAfee.com

(you might have problems deleting the folders because it will say a file is in use, in which case go into the McAfee folders and delete as many files as it will let you and give me the name of the file(s) it said was in use (if any) along with the name of the folder it was in)

Reboot into normal mode and post a new HiJackThis log.

mcvsshl.dll
8.0.0.15
McAfee Virusscan Shell Extension(I believe)

shlres.dll
8.0.0.12
Same as above

Also, whenever I try to run my winamp, it says-

The application has failed to start because DRMClien.DLL was not found. Re-Installing the application may fix this problem

Was DRMClien.dll removed during this malware removal? However, Winamp runs just fine, its just the message is annoying, which runs everytime I activate Winamp

Which folder were these in so I can have you delete them with Killbox?

No it was not removed during this - we only removed malware files, nothing legitimate.

Go to Start > Run type:

sfc /scannow

*Make sure there is a space between sfc and /

Click OK. If it finds that the file is missing, it will ask for XP disk to replace it.
