A friend of mine is having trouble doing updates and keeps getting that code, ,we tried doing this but it still didnt help and also tried running this but that didnt help either.

I also tried running sfc /scan now and got this message Error message "Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation"

Looking at her installed updates it says there is none

I am uncertain at what to do next

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Hello panthertooth; welcome to GeeksToGo!

Whilst the System Update Readiness Tool (SURT) has limited automated fixing capabilities, it is a great diagnostics tool as it outputs a very informative log file. Can you post the contents of:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.persist.log

Sorry for Late reply and Interfering Now!!!

please follow these :

This may result from mistakenly setting the System32 folder and its contents to 'Read Only' status.

To correct this:-

  • Open Windows Explorer (Computer)
  • Navigate to the C:\Windows folder
  • Find the System32 sub-folder and right-click on it
  • select Properties
  • Clear the 'blob' from the 'Read-only (Only applies to files in folder)' box by clicking on it until it's plain white.
  • Click on Apply.
  • Make sure that the radio button for 'Apply changes to this folder, subfolders and files' is set, and click OK.
  • Accept the Administrator prompt. After a couple of seconds, you'll be told there is an error - click on the 'Ignore all' button.
  • Wait for it to finish - it could take a couple of minutes.
  • OK out, and exit Windows Explorer.
  • Reboot twice

Hope this action will help you to fix the problem :)

Hi Panthertooth,

Thanks for letting me know that the SURT is failing. We will have to look at another log of yours, so could you upload it please:

C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CBS.log

So went to open the CBS log so as to copy it into notepad and i got an access denied window.

I then tried to copy the file to the desktop and got "the action can't be completed because the file is open in windows modules installer".

I even tried to rename it and open it but still no success

Strangely there is also a filter list, i looked in the properties and it says it was created today

Here is what is in the filter list

MpFilter 14 0
luafv 1 0
FileInfo 14 0

Ok, i was once in the Geeku for virus removal and faded out, I had ran a few scans on my friends comp prior to coming here and trying to figure out what is up with auto-updates after all this malarky i decided to run OTL now i can not fully read it because i never made it that far but i do not like what i see with some of the results, So I am gonna go to the virus guys and see if they don't like the same things i don't like and see if we can fix this problem from there, In the meantime keep this open incase what i am seeing ends up not being the trouble we are having.

Hi Panthertooth,

Copy the CBS log to your Desktop and you should be able to access it from there :)
