Under Sound in the Control Panel I'm told "No audio devices are installed" under both the playback and recording tabs.

I'm running Windows 7 on a Gateway laptop. This just randomly started happening upon starting up the machine today.

Checked some of the previous topics and have been unable to effectively apply any of the solutions.

What make and model Gateway laptop is this?
Have you tried updating the audio driver?
Have you checked the bios to see if the audio has been disabled?

Driver on Gateway site is almost 3 years old so lets try a different way.

Download DriverMax and have it scan your system. It will open their website with all the out of date drivers you can update. With the free version you can update only 2 drivers per day so if you have a lot of them it will take a few days to get everything updated. I have been using it for about 4 months now and like it better then any other utility out there for keeping my drivers up to date.
If you want you can post screenshots of all the drivers in the list that need to be updated and I will suggest in what order to get them.
