Usually when inserting a disk in drive, pc would do an auto-play at which time it would ask what to do with it, for example, "Play with Windows Media Player" etc. It no longer does that. I have to double clik on the CD Drive icon to open it up. Is this a "setting" problem?

Give Windows Repair All-In-One a try.
Uncheck all when you get to the Start Repairs step and check only Repair CD/DVD Missing/Not Working then run it, see if that helps.
