I hope I'm posting in the right place. A search didn't bring up any of the 'keywords' I used so I may not know the correct terminology.

I need a database app for an iPhone 4 that I can create the database on my laptop - then can (using Dropbox, etc) view, search and sort the information quickly on my phone.

I have a 300 cd changer that holds nearly 200 cds of my dad singing, playing and recording with many local musicians over several decades, all in random order. It's nearly impossible to search for a particular song over so many unorganized cds. We wanted to make a database that could search and find the songs that met a certain criteria.

EXAMPLE: We want to hear a song he performed with someone named Henry in 1971. On a regular laptop database we can find what cd# the song is on (and Henry's last name, btw...) in a matter of a few seconds.

I created the database using excel but when I opened the file in 'Spreadsheet' (the app I downloaded - blue icon with the autosum symbol in it) the data can't be text searched or sorted like it can in excel. Total waste of all that time!

The FREE database apps I've looked at so far:
1. won't accept a file from my laptop.
2. doesn't allow Sort or Text Search.
3. is only a 'connection tool' to look up song info on internet databases.

The PAID apps may or may not have the sort and search functions... nobody seems to really know... but I can't find out until AFTER I purchase it.

Does anyone know of an iPhone app that is just a SIMPLE database that functions the same way excel or MS Works or Sun's simple databases function? It also has to have a PC compatible component for entering the initial data.

There's *NO WAY* I'm re-entering all the data and notes for 3,800+ songs using my iPhone keypad....

Any suggestions? Would something like a pdf-reader thing work for this purpose??
