Thats what I did :) Just ran a few lines of code and went off..


No. You probably did this:

Click Start > Run > chkdsk /F X:

That's why the window close. First open the Command Line:

Click Start > Run> cmd

Is this in another computer? If its the case try doing the same on the first computer.

Ok, Seems fine at filesystem level, if you continue to have problems you should run chkdsk /r on the drive, it will do the same as /f but also will check the disk for bad sectors, the scan will take a long time.

Ahh. Thank you! Dont seem to be having much problems when the HDD is out. But I will update you if anything happens :)

Try the disk connected to a different computer to see if it gives you the same problem because it could be a problem with the disk, in some cases the problem is on the usb cable or the disk case and not with the disk in itself.

Now that you mention this I remember a case like that I had long time ago at my work, when I connect an external disk to the machine windows can't access the files correctly and when writing files to the disk windows starts reporting File System errors and gets very slow.
This was with a old machine that I end up replacing with another one a little less old.

I have seen similar cases if we connect the disk on the USB ports on the front panel but works fine when connected to a USB port in the back.
