Hi,

I have a Dell Inspirion Mini 10 laptop which cannot boot normally but was able to boot from SAFE MODE.
2 days later, cannot boot from SAFE MODE anymore. I tried to boot from CD and FAILED.
I ran diagnostic test and got these error codes. (of00:075d Msg disk_0, self test read error. and 0f00:0244: Msg Disk_0 block 93775004 can't read.Replace disk or remove write protection).
Is this problem with Hard Drive? Is it dead?
My laptop is about 2 and half years old.

Many thanks in advance.

Do you mean you tried to boot from an external cdrom drive Amy?

I'd have to agree with you though that the hard drive is indeed dead.

It's up to you what you want to do next by either taking it to a reputable repair shop so they can strip it down and replace the hard drive which will be expensive or go for a new machine.

Personally I hate Netbooks with a vengeance as they are neither use nor ornament.

Hello amy0299

It would appear that your HDD has expired I`m afraid.

You have said that the mini will not boot from the CD either, is this an external USB device that you have tried.

Thank you both so much for your quick reply!

Yes, I used external USB CD Rom to boot and test.

when I used CD to boot, I have 2 options : one is to repair by pressing "R" and another is to reinstall.

Selecting option one, takes me to command prompt mode which I don't know how to proceed. (i did select drive and entered admin password and get to c: windows>)
Under option 2, it was stuck at license agreement step. I've selected "I agreed" but nothing happen and only respond to "ESC" which cancelled the setup.

Just out of interest what cd did you use Amy?

I think it would be pretty pointless trying anything though with those error messages.

I found pretty cheap Hard drive-$50. I found out from web how to replace DELL HD and just took it out from laptop. Question I have is after replacing the HD, what are the steps involved for the laptop to start working?

Ok go into the bios by pressing F2 or Del or whatever key it asks for on boot up where you see the message "Press F2 (example) to enter setup".

Change the boot order to USB cdrom as first boot option, put the disk in and save the changes by pressing F10 and then exit the bios.

You should then see the message "Press any key to boot from cdrom".

You may see this message again on subsequent reboots but press nothing and simply let it install.

There are 3 options that I must select. If not the set up will not continue.
1.Enter= Continue
2.R= Repair
3.F3= Quit

I select option 1 to continue and select F8 = accept license agreement. But nothing happen.. stuck in the license agreement page.
The only thing the system respond to is "Esc= I do not agree" .

I also try not doing anything at " Press any key to boot from CD"
Windows logo display for a while and then become black screen..

No, I found a cheap one and have not received yet, and wanted to know the steps involved after replacing.
I will follow your instructions above once I received the new HD. Thanks!

After seating the new HD and follow your instruction above:
(1) system starts Windows setup directly without me pressing any key
(2)There are 3 options that I must select one to continue.
a).Enter= Continue
b).R= Repair
c).F3= Quit

when I select Enter to continue, License agreenmet screen open up. There are 3 options here again:
a) F8 = I agree -- when select this option, nothing happen.. stuck in the license agreement page.
b) ESC = I do not agree --which quit the set up and reboot
c) page down = Next page -- no response

Just a quick note, before my netbook crash, because of some issues, I reinstall the OS on a 2nd partition with this same CD and it was successful.

After installing the new hard drive did you follow my instructions to change the boot order in the bios to USB cdrom as first boot option?
