I recently tried connecting my laptop to my TV via an S-Video cable (for gaming on a screen larger than 15"). This is fine for most games, but I've noticed there's about a quarter-second delay between the display on the laptop and the display on the TV. This makes some twitch-based games (Super Meat Boy, etc) pretty much unplayable. Is this just an inherent flaw in using S-Video, or might this be a problem that can be fixed? Thanks in advance for any advice..

You are correct - this laptop is about 8 years old, and S-Video is the only output available.

I do have HDMI on the TV.

Yikes, $70 before shipping... Monoprice is a little better at $47ish http://www.monoprice...&seq=1&format=2 any idea if there's something cheaper that will do this, or is this about the best I'll find? And are you sure this will fix the lag, or do you just think it should?

The converter and its price are just an opinion Danny and it may well be that, depending on the game requirements, your laptop can't quite hack it regarding the lag.

What are the system specifications on the laptop in terms of cpu and memory?

2 GHz processor and 2 GB RAM (upgraded from 1GB default, that's as high as this laptop can handle...) Maybe I should consider getting a new laptop...

Or consider using my desktop for my gaming/media center, but I like the idea of having a dedicated machine for running movies and playing games from the couch and such. Hmmm, decisions...

Although this may be like using a sledgehammer to crack a nut scenario what we have to seriously consider is the age of the laptop and in my opinion you're lucky that it has lasted so long.

All good laptops these days come with an HDMI output as standard besides a good CPU, at least 4GB of RAM and a generous hard drive.

If you have the budget then go for it Danny but try and get one with Windows 7 on it if you can as they will be cheaper than machines running Windows 8 which is utter trash as far as I'm concerned.

All these work like gamming or movies can be perform on any good laptop.And you should prefer the OS according to your requirements.
