When I went to Microsoft's website I clicked the check my browser button and it said "thank you for trying IE 10" and would do no more. Apparently I'm on a trial version which may be interfering some how with Adobe. I must buy the new version of Windows to go forward it seems. I am unable to do so right now. I will have to live with this small problem for the time being. If it grows intolerable, I will either buy a new computer or have the new software installed on it. Since there is nothing more we need to do, I will say goodbye and thanks again!

That couldn't be a reason which blocks your IE10 installation. :)

Okay, let's try direct link for IE10 installer. Download it here.

I clicked the link and it would not download. It said "setup can't continue because a more recent version of Internet Explorer is already installed on your computer." Don't know what more to do.

Please, follow these steps:

  • Open your Internet Explorer browser
  • Click on the wheel image (Tools menu) in the right upper corner.
  • Click on About Internet Explorer.

What version is it showing there?

It's still happening. I really have no idea why. It didn't start until I did these fixes here for the other problem so it might have corrupted my Adobe software.

so it might have corrupted my Adobe software.

I really don't think so. My fixes haven't affected any regions related to Adobe software.

Please, try all methods (except the last one) on this page. After that notify us about any results.

I will do so as soon as possible. Also, I ran across another episode of "please update your adobe flash player" on a common website but this time I DID NOT click update. I will post another log to see if anything is in there. These websites that I am seeing this on are not considered risky, they are well known sites.

It showed I did not have the newest flash player. I downloaded the newest version. Many of those other steps I was unable to decipher because the instructions provided did not show what was stated. I have no "run" on my start button and I could not find the "delete Flash Player cache" choices. It showed I did have the updated Chrome.

I have not had an episode of the Adobe error as of yet and I have watched online news videos and pictures on MSN.

Please, don't edit your messages to add new information. If you have anything new - post the new message. That's because of notifications - when new message appears in your topic - I get notified about that. Editing existing messages with new portions of logs could lead to delays, because when message is edited, I don't get notified about it.

Many of those other steps I was unable to decipher because the instructions provided did not show what was stated.

Can you please list all steps, whose you couldn't follow?

I have no "run" on my start button

This menu is equal to Win+R key sequence. Try to hold them and the same window, as described on image, will appear.

I could not find the "delete Flash Player cache" choices.

For that, follow these steps:

  • Press Win+R key sequence.
  • In the new window paste this text:

    flashplayercplapp.cpl
  • and hit Enter key.
  • Now you can countinue to follow Step 5 "Delete all Flash Player browsing data" from original instruction, beginning from Substep 3.

When all these steps will be done, please, inform us about results.

Sorry about the "edited" messages. I have downloaded the newest version of Flash Player. All errors and problems with it have ceased. There have been no false update pages or anything awry with the system. Thanks again.

Congratulations, your PC is clean now. :)

However, you need to follow some important steps to remove tools and prevent infection again.

Step 1. Uninstalling Programs.

  • Open Start menu.
  • Click on Control Panel.
  • Click on Programs and Features. New window should appear.
  • Uninstall these programs one by one, selecting each program and clicking Uninstall button.

Programs to uninstall:

  • ESET Online Scanner

Step 2. Uninstall AdwCleaner.

  • Run AdwCleaner on your Desktop.
  • Click Uninstall button.
  • AdwCleaner will be removed from your computer.

Step 3. CleanUp.

Run OTL.
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:

    :Commands
    [EMPTYTEMP]
  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done.
  • After reboot run OTL again.
  • Click on CleanUp button.
  • OTL will be removed from your computer.

Here are some recommendations for you, how to stay safe in the internet.

  • Keep your system up-to-date. It will increase your protection level, because a lot of malware uses system vulnerabilities.

To learn more, how to turn Automatic Updates on, click here.
  • Keep another software up-to-date too. Malware often uses third party software vulnerabilities.

You can monitor news about vulnerabilities or simply install software which will scan your computer for outdated and vulnerable software and will notify you about results. Some of these programs are Secunia PSI (Requires installation, you can download it here) and Secunia OSI (java applet, requires Java Runtime Environment, learn more here).
  • Keep your antivirus software up-to-date.

Turn on automatic updates for your antivirus, it's a basis of protection. Don't forget to keep your antivirus version up-to-date, new versions usually have advanced functionality, clean and prevent infection more effectively, than outdated versions.
  • Use limited user account. It will considerably increase your level of protection.

90% of Malware won't work under limited user account, because they need administrator priveleges. If you are using Windows XP, then you can use DropMyRights while you are surfing on the internet.
  • Invent strong and long passwords for your accounts, if you want to keep your personal and confidential data in safety.

Some malware have very dangerous functionality - they can crack your passwords. Please, set very strong password for your administrator account in Windows, then malware won't harm your PC. For each account on the internet invent individual password.

Hope that these recommendations will help you and you will avoid malware infections in the future. Good luck and safe web to you! :)

I have performed the steps listed and removed all programs. My computer continues to operate normally. I have always had my computer password/administrator protected and I will also use the other tools you listed for protection. In the future, Geekstogo.com will be the place I will turn to for software help. Thanks again for all your help.
