Hi I bought a SONY VAIO (model PCG-61A14L) laptop and there is a problem with connecting to the wireless router. It's not brand new and whenever I connect to the router it says "limited connectivity". Can someone help me with the problem and how to solve this?

It has a windows 7 OS.

BTW I also tried direct cable connection but still it can't connect to the internet

Hi Excluszev :welcome:

Lets take a look, can you connect the Ethernet cable direct to the router, and then execute the following steps:

Step 1

Using a working computer can you download MiniToolBox and copy the file to the affected computer using a flash drive?
Run the tool from the flash drive and check the following options:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
  • List Devices (Only Problems)
Click on Go.

A report called result.txt its created on the flash drive, please copy & paste the report to your next reply.

Step 2

Take a Screenshot of Device Manager
  • open Device Manager (Start > Run > devmgmt.msc)
  • expand the Network Adapters
  • take a screenshot of the Device Manager Window and add the picture to your post

If you have trouble executing the steps please let me know.

Hi,

You have the network devices disabled on Device Manager, please open Device Manager and right click the Network devices and choose Enable, repeate the steps for:
  • Atheros AR8151...
  • Microsoft Virtual Wifi... #3
  • Microsoft Virtual Wifi... #4

Please take note if you get some error enabling the devices.

It seems you have some leftovers of Norton install lets remove that, download and execute Norton Removal Tool

Hello,

The network devices are now enabled but the network card isn't showing as connect, its like if the Ethernet cable isn't connected can you check the cable or try with another one?

You have AVG 2012 installed and it seems not all the components are working properly, there is a newer version try to uninstall AVG 2012 and install AVG 2013.

If by some reason you don't want to install the new version try to uninstall the version you have and reinstall to see if it helps.

Let me know how this goes.

Yes I know but one step at the time Ethernet is simpler because it should work without any special configuration, wireless is different because it depends on your router settings (security type, network password, etc.)

Did you reinstall AVG? Do you have another machine to connect using the same network cable to check if it works?
