With the help of ZTruker on geekstogo I have been re-formatting and re-installing my desktop computer with dual boot into Windows 7 and Windows XP. I think I have all of the drivers installed in XP except for a yellow question mark that I am getting next to PCI Simple Communications Controller. I thought the problem was related to a Parallel printer port card that I have installed in the computer (and maybe it is) but I went to device manager and un-installed PCI Simple communications controller that was giving me the yellow question mark. Then I powered down and manually removed the parallel card. When I powered back up, I got the "new hardware found" balloon, it tried to find the driver and was un-successful and I got the yellow question mark back again. Hopefully this is enough information to be able to have someone give me an idea what to do next. I have to have the parallel printer port working for a software security key.

Thank you as always for your help!!

Hi there,

Lets see if we can help find the correct driver.

Firstly, can you give us the make and model of the computer?

Secondly, can you get me the Hardware IDs of the device in question?

To do this; open device manager -> right-click on the PCI Simple Communications Controller -> go to Properties.
This will open up a new window. Select the detail tab along the top and from the drop down menu select Hardware IDs.

Copy and paste the information shown in the box into your next post.

Thank you, Masher.

Hi Masher,

The computer was put together with separate components so no make and model. The motherboard is a Gigabyte GA-H55M-UD2H rev. 1.0, Processor is Intel Core I5 CPU @ 2.80GHz, Windows XP Professional SP3. The information under Hardware Ids is as follows:

PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&SUBSYS_3B641458&REV_06
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&SUBSYS_3B641458
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&CC_078000
PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_3B64&CC_0780

Thank you,
Brad

It worked!!! It sounds like the same driver that I downloaded from the gigabyte website earlier today but when I would try to install that one, it would say my computer did not meet all the necessary requirements to install the driver. (or something like that) The driver from the gigabyte website was called "Intel Management Engine Software - Intel HECI Device Driver" If the one you recommended is the same, then I wont worry that I was not able to install the one from the gigabyte website.

Anyhow, I am up and running again, was even able to install the security key I was having trouble with, and all seems to be well. geekstogo is awesome and Thank You so much masher92 and ZTruker!!!

Hi Brad,

I'm glad you got your issue sorted. I see this a lot with Dell computers after wiping and reinstalling.

It is usually one of two drivers and Ztruker has kindly linked you to the right one.

Thank you, Masher.
