Help, Camera deleted photos

Hi, I was running for rodeo queen and got all my pics uploaded evey night of the rodeo, then took pictures the next day....... well the last day was Saturday (the most important day) and I went to upload the pictures earlier and they were completely gone. I know they were on there because I went through them all that night. Is there any way I can get them back? preferable free and without a card reader? I have a card reader but im not sure if it still works, I haven't used it in a long time. Any help would be appreciated, the pictures are irreplaceable. Thanks!!!
