HARDWARE:
i have a 32GB microSD card that i was using in my Samsung Galaxy S3 replica (it says "Spreadtrum" when i plug it to the computer) for several months without a problem. the phone is on Android 4.0.3, unrooted.

ISSUE:
as i was downloading a video file the phone suddenly reset and when it powered back on it kept saying "Insert SD card" in notifications. :(

ATTEMPTED FIXES SO FAR:
1. i powercycled it a few times, still the same message.
2. i then swapped out the card with a 4GB i had lying around and it worked fine.
3. then i put the 32BD card back in and got the error again, so now i'm currently using the 4GB.
4. i connected the 32GB card to my PC using a card reader. drive F: comes up when i do that, but when i click on it i get "Please insert a disk into Removable Drive F:" :..( under Properties, the size of the drive is coming up as 0 bytes.
5. i tried changing the drive name > doesn't help
6. tried cmd > CHKDSK > "Cannot open volume for direct access"
7. tried looking around online for data recovery software
* ZAR (Zero Assumption Recovery) = :(
* undelete 360 = :(
* NTFS Undelete = :(
* Testdisk & Photorec = :(
* EaseUS = :(

NOW WHAT?
I would like to recover as much data as I can from the card, but as it can't be detected by the computer this seems to be an almost impossible problem. Is there anything I haven't tried or a program you could recommend?

The download being interrupted may have corrupted the data on the device but this can also happen if the device is full, how much free storage space was available on the card.

Does the card have a write protect tab on it and if so is it in the correct position.

Recuva has a good success rate and so is worth a try http://download.cnet...4-10753287.html

Some other options to try available @ http://3d2f.com/tags...sh/disk/repair/

Hello,

Did this fix work? I'm having the same issue, and have also gone through a number of the steps you have without luck. Unfortunately, only one of my 3 laptops even assigns the SD card a drive letter, but that specific laptop can only access encrypted devices so it's useless in this case.

I am also having this very same issue with a 32gb Class 10 Kingston Micro SD on a "Android Note III" replica. Just the other day I went to access an app, and it said "no app installed".. so I went to check the storage and it's like it isn't registering.

Anyone else have this issue? I've also tried the cmd > CHKDSK process and it just said "Cannot open volume for direct access" and isn't being registered by my computer either. The reader is working with another 4gb card, and is being recognized. Any solutions for recovery?

One of my friends also came across the same problem when he downloaded a app from the Internet. But Finally I managed to solved his problem. I suggest you scan your phone by anti-virus because some virus may break down your SD card. Of course, there are still other reasons account for such a situation. You can follow a guide of Android doesn't recognize SD card.

In fact, I would highly recommend you back up data on the SD card regularly, and you can turn to some third party data tool like Android Transfer by RecoveryAndroid.

Hope this will help you. Have a nice day!
