Hello this is my first post (I'm not sure if I have put it in the right place sorry)

I need some help any help with my mothers laptop which is not working properly after my brother had been using it for all the wrong reasons. After i decontaminated it, it has since not worked properly it was running extremely slow and not loading programmes on it. My mother has asked me to fix it.

I look up how to fix this problem and I attempted to reset the laptop to manufacture setting as there is no files on the laptop that need to be saved as my mother only ever uses the laptop to play the card game solitaire. I found the menu for restoring the laptop and was doing so but then it continuously keep restart the computer by its self and when it loaded it would then bring up the instalment setting (like you get when it is brand new) but then would restart. I let it do this for about 10 minutes then I reset it using the power button thinking it did not instal properly and I was going to the whole process again. However now I am unable to get the menu back up to reset the laptop no matter what buttons i press the F ones or zero it won't come back up.

I have spend hours reading forums and groups and have tried advice given by other people but nothing is working for me. I would take it o get repaired but I'm a student and don't have cash for that now, my mum wont pay because she said she can live with out a computer but she is always borrowing mine to play solitaire for hours and I need it back for my essays and to socialise . my mum is left with not being able to log into the computer as the administrator account comes up as being disabled and when it loads in safe mode it look like the very old computers that first came out poor graphics and everything is extremely large.

Also it never came with any disks when she bought it. Also we live in England ( I don't know if that makes a difference). I'm not that great with computer myself so please be basic!

It's a toshiba laptop satellite L450D-13X

How am I able to get that menu back again so I can restore the computer again?

Thank-you

Hello Shayh0404,

Welcome to Geekstogo.

I am a bit confused about whether you can or you can't boot that machine up.

when it loads in safe mode it look like the very old computers that first came out poor graphics and everything is extremely large.

This statement makes me think you can boot into Safe Mode.

Assuming you can, then please do this:

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.

  • Right click to run as administrator. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will produce a log called (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run from.
  • Please copy and paste log back here.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please also paste that into your reply.
If I am wrong and you can't boot into Safe Mode then tell me.

Looks like you might need to set up your internet connection again.

You could try this (I don't know what OS you have so while this instruction should be fine it might be slightly different for your machine) :

Please go to Start > Control Panel > Network and Internet Connections > Network Connections. Then right-click on your default connection, usually Local Area Connection or Dial-up Connection if you are using dial-up, and left-click on the Properties option. Double-click on the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) item and select the radio button that says "Obtain DNS servers automatically". Click OK twice, and restart your computer.

If after that you have internet connection, well and good, if not do this:

Go to Start > Run... (for Vista you will need to go to Accessories > Run). In the Open: field type cmd and press the OK button. This will open a Command Prompt.
Type or copy & paste the contents inside the Code box below into the command window:

ipconfig /flushdns

(Note the gap, it should be there)

Hit Enter and exit the Command Prompt.

Tell me when you return if you have internet connection. If you do not have internet connection then follow the actions below.

is there another way for me to do this?

Yes there are a range of things we can try.

It would be good if we can use the safe mode option so can you download Farbar's Recovery Scan Tool mentioned in my last post to a flash drive and transfer it to the desktop of the problematic machine. If you manage that, then follow the instructions in my last post to run FRST.

Hello Shayh0404,

i not sure if that is what you wanted. im not sure what you mean

What you did was exactly right. :)

Now

Right click on My Computer > Manage and click on Device Manager (under System Tools - list on left hand side)

Scroll down to Network Adaptors and see if there are any warning signs there. If you see a yellow warning sign next to a name, double click its name to figure out what the problem is. Windows will explain why the device is temporarily out of work, and may even advise you to run its troubleshooter program. In your case, if the problem is not identified, right click on each item under Network Adaptor and update drivers. Try that.

After that reboot and see if you have internet connection and if so move to the next action.

Next

Download attached fixlist.txt file and save it to the Desktop (if you don't have internet connection you will have to follow the same procedure as before i.e. download to a flash drive and transfer to your desktop).

NOTE. It's important that both files, FRST and fixlist.txt are in the same location or the fix will not work.

NOTICE: This script was written specifically for this user, for use on that particular machine. Running this on another machine may cause damage to your operating system

Run FRST/FRST64 and press the Fix button just once and wait.
The tool will make a log on the Desktop (Fixlog.txt). Please post it to your reply.
