Digital River: I've DL'd the ISO at the link we both like ( ), but the iSO is just sitting on my computer desktop. I've not actually tried the installation or even burned it to a disc as yet.

AH HA now I get it. You are trying to run this from within windows and you can't. Burn the ISO like the instructions I posted says and then reboot the system with the newly created disk in the cdrom drive. If the system is set to boot to the cdrom the disk should initiate and then we can go from there.

Well, you've almost got it. I did NOT try to run it from within Windows...I didn't try to run it at all (I didn't run it with a fox, I didn't run it in a box...). But, OK, it sounds you're telling me to go ahead and go for it.

But I'm going to lose all my drivers? Ugh.`

Maybe because Win7 does have a lot of drivers already but we may have to find some and most certainly have to do some updating. Just make sure you have backed up everything you want to save as far as data.

OK, well, I gave it a try.

Got this error:
Windows cannot copy files required for installation. The files may be corrupt or missing. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070241

Mind you, I did this, per post #4, via the the newly created CD but while in Windows (which is what the directions state).

However, in your last post, you said I should reboot w/the disc in the drive. Should I try that next? What does 0x80070241 mean?

Answer to what the bug check means located HERE.

Looking through the reasons for it I see external usb items connected during installation other then kb and mouse. More then one hd installed at the installation.

I have a laptop, so no mouse, no extra keyboard attached.

My external USB drive hasn't been used since Saturday, when I finished backing up all my files. There was NO USB anything attached to my computer.

I restarted the computer per the instructions; I don't think I even opened Firefox (b/c I remembered the steps I needed to take).

The only things connected to the computer: the Wi-Fi cable, the power cable. That's it.

I will follow the steps on the link you posted and report back.

Thx.

Heya!

OK, I've NOT attached the file the Win7 Upgrade advisor created...it wouldn't let me. It's pasted below.

Then I DL'd the Intel boost program it said I could update (I have the log if you want it), but I've no idea what it does. I DO know that the previous version did NOT work, and when I DL'd an update from Dells's site, it still didn't work.

Also, I got another BSOD, and, according to WhoCrashed, it looks like it's my video driver (which I knew was one of my computer's problems).

THANK YOU!

I see no update compatibility issues.
The Intel boost is related to helping the CPU perform better and faster. Info on it located HERE
Updating video should be no problem at all.

OK.

So, do you want me to follow steps 2 - 8 on the error code page?

As for updating my video driver -- easier said than done it seems. I purportedly have the most up-to-date drivers. I've just sent the crash analysis to both AMD and Dell. We'll see.

Let me know what you feel I should do next in terms of the Windows Repair and so forth.

Hey, RShaff!

I took a few days off to focus on work and on other computer issues (also having some weird slow-down problems which I think are related to my video drivers).

But here's something weird, I just clicked the link to try the next steps, and I'm getting an error page:

So, OK, I signed in w/my Hotmail account, and I got this:

We are sorry...

The page you requested is not available at this time.

What the heck? Any thoughts?

Hmm strange I got the same thing when I just tried it.
I don't know how you found the page but any chance of tracing your steps backwards?

Since you got it too, I decided to wait until today. The page is back. I've copied & pasted it to a file.

I'm heading out and will try the rest of the steps in the next day or so.

Sorry this seems to be taking forever.

No problem as I have spent a long time longer on other topics. I'm working now on another forum that is 70 plus posts and we;re still trying to run down exactly what is causing the issue. We get one thing resolved and another problem pops up. Yours is not that bad at all.
