OK I've been using ad-aware along with other spyware, virus, and other malware protectors for some time now. Recently, I've had pop-ups entitled "advertisement" every time I open my browser. I've run ad-ware and removed the few malware that turned up, but the pop-ups wont go away. Please help. Here is my log file with the specified settings:

In order to assist you, we need to see the log from an Ad-Aware SE 1.06r1 full system scan.

Important Note! Before performing a scan, be sure that you have the most recent definitions file by using WebUpdate. (Click on the Globe icon, Click connect, Click OK, Click Finish.) At this current point * SE1R49 31.05.2005 * is the most recent definition file.

Ad-Aware SE comes preconfigured with default options so we need you to make only one change. Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat. This option can be changed when choosing your scan type.

Select "Perform Full System Scan" and press "Next". When the scan has completed, click "Show Logfile".

Please copy/paste the complete log file here using the reply button. Don't quarantine or remove anything at this time, just post a complete logfile. This sometimes takes 2-3 posts to get it all posted. You will know you are at the end when you see the "Summary of this scan" information has been posted.

When you have posted your log here, Team Lavasoft can advise on what to do next.

Please post back if you have any questions or other problems.

Good luck

Andy

The problem is an advertisement pop-up that I keep getting. It appears as I open my browser and it appears in a IE box usually labeled "advertisement."
Here is my log:

Yes unfortunately I am. I'm receiving a pop-up window while my browser is open labeled "advertisement." Search and destroy found malware under that name and I removed it, but if I scan again immediately afterwards it appears again as it it weren't removed. I'd appreciate any help. Thanks.

Hi again tommyc463
Need a couple more things done here please,

Create a folder on the C: drive called C:\HJT.
You can do this by going to My Computer (Windows key+e) then double click on C: then right click and select New then Folder and name it hjt
Move HJT into this new folder please.

Next

Please click this link to download Silent Runners.
* Save it to the desktop.
* Run Silent Runner's by doubleclicking the "Silent Runners" icon on your desktop.
* You will see a text file appear on the desktop - it's not done yet, just let it run (it won't appear to be doing anything!)
* Once you receive the prompt "All Done!", double-click on the new text file on the desktop and copy that entire log and paste it here.

*NOTE* If you receive any warning message about scripts, please choose to allow the script to run.

Post back a fresh HJT log as well please

Please restart HJT put a check next to the following, close all open windows and click “Fix Checked”

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [eF4cO] C:\documents and settings\owner\local settings\temp\eF4cO.exe

Next

Please download ewido security suite it is a trial version of the program.
  • Install ewido security suite
  • Launch ewido, there should be an icon on your desktop double-click it.
  • The program will prompt you to update click the OK button
  • The program will now go to the main screen
You will need to update ewido to the latest definition files.
  • On the left hand side of the main screen click update
  • Click on Start
The update will start and a progress bar will show the updates being installed.
Once the updates are installed do the following:
  • Click on scanner
  • Make sure the following boxes are checked before scanning:
    • Binder
    • Crypter
    • Archives
  • Click on Start Scan
  • Let the program scan the machine
While the scan is in progress you will be prompted to clean files, click OK

Once the scan has completed, there will be a button located on the bottom of the screen named Save report
  • Click Save report
  • Save the report to your desktop
Reboot your machine and post back a new HJT log and the ewido .txt log file
