Windows XP BSoD STOP: C0000218

One screen says STOP: C0000218 {Registry File Failure} The registry cannot load the hive (file): system root\system32\config\software. __its log or alternate. _-is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

A second screen says TECHNICAL INFORMATION
stop: 0X000000ed (0X82B81C08,0XC000009C, 0X00000000,0X0000000)

Any help? I use my computer to receive and report my work so it is very important!
