Which version of Outlook are you using? 2010 has an auto-archive feature.

Go to File > Options and click Advanced

In the AutoArchive section, click AutoArchive Settings. Remove the check next to Run AutoArchive every "X" days.

Click OK twice (to close both dialog boxes).

How do you have outlook configured? IMAP, POP3 or Exchange?

Hmmm, may sound silly but if you go to View > Current View make sure it is set it to "show all messages".

Can you access these emails from anywhere else? A phone or tablet?

It could be a corrupt .dbx file.. you may be able to restore the data if you follow the instructions HERE.

I would start from the beginning and work through the backup instructions first, to prevent any more data loss.

Morning Jayzee

thanks on that but still struggling - followed the instructions but when it comes to the final import the message I get is

No messages can be found in this folderor another application is running that has the required files open. please select another folder or try closing the applications that may have the files open.

I dont have anything open other that OE

FYI
Mail Navigator CAN see my missing emails but once again I cannot export them back to OE.

any clues ??

regards

Martin

I've had a scout around and found this article...

http://www.dtidata.c...to-get-it-back/

It's saying that when Outlook compresses the dbx's it puts them in the recycle bin with a .tmp or .bak extension. Have a look in there see if you find anything. If you do, go through the process described in the article.

I'll keep having a look around see if I can dig up any other info on this, other than that I'm not too sure.

Maybe someone else here may know or used a successful method to restore them...
