Errors on install

Hello I had a friend give me a pc but I was told to wipe hd so I used dban when dban was running I got a message around 18% said dban finished with non fatial errors some stuff about clocks and at the bottom the word killed
So I rebooted the system and lost the OS which was windows xp
So I was ok with that I was going to install win 8 anyways so I proceeded to install but now I can't get passes error 0x80070002 on 4%of prepairing files
So I thought it was my disc so I tried fedora13 basically same issue
Now I have no OS pc will not load any thing unless it is .iso disc
Please help me
