I run adaware and spybot at least every 2 weeks. This virus just got in a few hours ago :tazz: I did a search on this and would like some help on what steps to take in removing it. Thank you.

Welcome to GTG.

Please read the first link in my signature and follow the steps outlined there. When you are ready, post the HijackThis log here. Since you ran Ad-aware and Spybot already, you may skip those two :tazz:

i dled CWshredder and ran that as well no problem. I then dled and ran ewido that would not run properly. Is the alarm supposed to pop up on its own and ask to fix each individual problem? After I got thru that mess, scanning the drives took so long that the program errored and closed out. I shut my screen saver off for an hour and a half and that atleast got it to 88% before it crashed. I'm guessing I should shut off my screen saver and maybe it will run properly? But what is with the alarm popup??? Thank you.

What alarm popup is this?

You should be running Ewido in Safe Mode if it's giving you problems. If it's still crashing on you, then just do the other things and give me your HijackThis log when ready. Yes, it's best if you disable all screensavers and other things like Power Management.

ok i will try in safe mode and will also disable my screen saver. I think the program runs automatically by itself and continuously checks my computer....??? Anyway, I'll try to run in safe mode and see what happens. I
ll give u an update in a few hours when it's finished.....[bleep] this takes awhile!

No, it shouldn't be able to scan by itself. It will however, provide real time protection like any other antivirus program. But that's not the same thing as scanning the whole computer. So we need you to do that.

Yes, it takes a while to scan sometimes. Just let it do its job and post back the results.

Here is the ewido, it took so long because i didn't know you had to sit and monitor it the whole time. The siren pops up with an alert and the program wont scan until you click "ok". So me not realizing this, scanned and then went to bed. Woke up at 56% waiting for me to click ok. :tazz: This is also after several other botched attempts where it cleaned a bunch of things before freezing.

...it took so long because i didn't know you had to sit and monitor it the whole time. The siren pops up with an alert and the program wont scan until you click "ok".

Neither did I :tazz: I'm asking other analysts/experts about this and will probably try testing out this program myself. I don't think it requires monitoring, but from what you told me here, I might be wrong.

Please print out the instructions here (or save it in Notepad) so that you can follow along more easily.

Reboot into Safe Mode by hitting the F8 key repeatedly until a menu shows up (and choose Safe Mode from the list). In some systems, this may be the F5 key, so try that if F8 doesn't work.

Once in Safe Mode, please double-click on nailfix.cmd. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly --- this is normal.

Next run a full scan in Ewido. Save the log from the Ewido scan so that you can post it later.

Run a scan in HijackThis. Check each of the following and hit 'Fix checked' (after checking them) if they still exist (make sure not to miss any):

Restart your computer.

Download FindIt's.zip http://forums.net-in...=post&id=142443 to your desktop.

1. Unzip/extract the files inside to a folder on your desktop.
2. Open the folder. Double click on FindIt's.bat and wait for Notepad to open a text file. It will take a while so please be patient... Note: If you are having problems using FindIt's.bat (16 bit error), copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's.bat.
3. Then post the results here along with the new HijackThis log. Also post the Ewido scan results here.

I couldn't get Findit to run properly so I just sent it to the recycling bin. Here is my Hjt log.

Oh, and before I delete it, I have a folder on my desktop that is labeled backups. Can I get rid of it, I'm not sure what it is?

Check and fix this in HijackThis:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = websearch.shopnav.com/q.cgi?q=

Restart your computer and post a new HijackThis log.

What is the problem with FindIt? Is it the 16 bit error. If so, copy autoexec.nt from the C:\WINDOWS\repair folder to C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder. Now try running FindIt's and post the log here.

That backups folder is created by HijackThis. That's why we usually ask users to put HijackThis in a folder like C:\HJT\ so that they both will be in that folder.
