Are you sure the command was

windows\system32\sam


Please, refer once more to my last post. It should be:
c:\windows\system32\config\sam
Bevery exact with this commands, in other way you may delete important windows files which can make more damage.

Are you typing correctly? In ther last post you've ommited "config" in the command.
copy c:\windows\system32\config\sam c:\windows\tmp\sam.bak

OK, please do this:
type
cd \
cd windows
cd system32
cd config
dir
and rewrite the contents here.

Ok, if the recovery console can't do this, then maybe we should try a Linux Live CD.
