23red,
My C drive and I just want to wipe my free space. I can't check for updates for CCleaner, when I try it want's to re-install CCleaner. I also can't update SpyBot S&D. :(
Windows firewall is off.
Yes, windows updates works, only four optional ones are available for Bing, a graphics adapter, and a storage controller.
Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich :)

By Jove, I think you've done it ( I've always wanted to use that phrase). Start up is much, much faster.

Music to my ears! Excellent :D

I suppose, I would like to use Windows firewall. If you can help me turn off Norton's firewall that would be great.

Am I correct in that you have a subscription for Norton Internet Security? Turning off Norton Firewall and going for Windows Firewall appears to entail switching from Norton Internet Security to Norton Antivirus. This is what I found from Norton. They may switch it for you, if you'd like. Though it may be easier to do at renewal. There are many good free Antivirus Programs as well, just so you are aware ;)
If you choose to leave Norton as is, Windows Firewall should be off, but please make sure it is off. Only one firewall need be on. More will cause problems. If you need assistance with this, please ask.

One last thing, when I try to run drive wiper on CCleaner it says " access is denied" even if I run as administrator. Would you please help me with that?

CCleaner will not let you wipe the system partition as it contains boot data. So it will not wipe Drive C: .....Protection mechanism. ;)

Thanks a million

You are very welcome. :D

As for DiskCheck, monthly is more than fine. Daily is a little much ;)

My C drive. I can't check for updates for CCleaner, when I try it want's to re-install CCleaner. I also can't update SpyBot S&D.

Ok. I'll check into that. Rich, does Windows Update work ok?

Hi Rich :)
Great! I saw your add-on up there. Please uninstall, then reinstall both CCleaner and Spybot, see if that helps.

Hi Rich :)
Great! That's one
I'm no CCleaner expert, we actually don't really recommend using it as the potential for registry damage is great. You have not advised of any other issues with other programs. Which confirms it's only CCleaner.

Let's try this:

Without uninstalling what you have, download a fresh version, from Piriform latest is v 4.05.4250.
Install it right over what you currently have. It should just write right over and refresh what you have. See if that helps.
Please let me know how it goes :)

Hi Rich :)
Do other parts of it work ok? Is it just Wiper and Updating that will not work? Or any part of the program?
Let me know, please :) Thank you

Hi Rich :)

Ok. Either way, I think we've figured out it's broke. Let's try a cleaner install. Go into Safe Mode and Uninstall CCleaner.

To get into Safe Mode:

1. Restart your computer.

2. When the computer starts you will see your computer's hardware being listed. When you see this information start to gently tap the F8 key on your keyboard repeatedly until you are presented with the Advanced Boot Options screen.

3. Using the arrow keys, select Safe Mode.

4. Then press the Enter key on your keyboard to boot into Safe Mode.

5. When Windows starts you will be at a typical logon screen. Logon to your computer and you'll enter Safe mode.

6. Uninstall CCleaner.

7. Reboot to go back into normal mode. Reinstall a fresh copy.

8. Let me know how it goes, please :)

I don't have to have CCleaner.
Is there something else that can wipe my free space?
If there is, let me know
and you will be done with me.The millstone will have been lifted from your neck lol

Hi Rich :)

The millstone will have been lifted from your neck lol

Not Millstone! a curiousity, a query or a puzzle, maybe. Not a problem. I do not mind working on this with you for a bit if it's ok, if we end up not being able to fix it, then we do, but I'm not quite ready to give up yet ~ If you do not mind there are a few other things we can check. In the mean time, I'm checking on another program for you just in case.

First, tho I'd like you to run the AVG removal tool as to remove it completely since it has been uninstalled. Click right here to download avg uninstaller Download and run the tool, it will require a reboot.

Ok, I've consulted with some experts, and have a few suggestions.
I'd like to make sure there is not a problem with the Drive itself, what I'd like you to do please, if you don't mind is download SleepyDudes Tool from this Link and run it for me. It will tell results of the checkdisk that you ran.

Also: Have you tried CCleaner both with and without Running as Administrator? I think you have, but I wanted to check to be sure.

Please post SleepyDudes Tool results when you return, we'll see if we can figure this out.

Hi Rich :)
Everything looks good  Excellent work!

As for the Wiper issue:

If original CCleaner is still not cooperating, I have 2 choices for you :)

1. CCleaner Portable found here

2. If that does not work, or is inconvenient for you, a program called Eraser has been recommended.

Note: This is a very powerful tool. Please be careful!

Please Read thoroughly information here before you do anything!

Download Eraser from this link.

If you go with Eraser and need a program to empty temp files here's one that will do it for you:

TFC <~ Short for Temporary File Cleaner

Download TFC by OldTimer to your desktop
  • (Note: Since you are running on Windows 7, right-click on the file and choose Run As Administrator).
  • It will close all programs when run, so make sure you have saved all your work before you begin.
  • Click the Start button to begin the process. Depending on how often you clean temp files, execution time should be anywhere from a few seconds to a minute or two. Let it run uninterrupted to completion.
  • Once it's finished it should reboot your machine. If it does not, please manually reboot the machine yourself to ensure a complete clean.

One last thing to add here: TFC works best ~ and should run from the Desktop. If it downloads to another spot, please Cut and Paste it on your Desktop.

Hope all works well for you, please let me know how which ever wiper you choose/or works for you goes, I'd like to know

Surf safe :)
