Hi Rich :)
Thanks for the reports :) You're doing fine! Thank you for being patient with me ;)
If you do not want firefox as your home page, it can be changed to whatever you like ~ including Yahoo as you originally had. If you need assistance with that, please let me know. Let's get this finished and see where all your space went:

Please have Spybot disabled while we repair.
We'll continue cleaning up the obvious first:

Step 1.
Windows Sidebar Advice

It is no longer advisable to have this feature enabled as outline in the below Microsoft article:

Vulnerabilities in Gadgets could allow remote code execution

I advise you download and run the Disable Windows Sidebar and Gadgets Fixtit Utility to rectify this.

Step 2.
OTL Fix

Please right click on Posted Image Run as Administrator, accept UAC prompts.

Under Posted Image
in the textbox at the bottom, please paste in the following text:

:Commands
[CREATERESTOREPOINT]
:OTL
O3 - HKLM\..\Toolbar: (no name) - {EF99BD32-C1FB-11D2-892F-0090271D4F88} - No CLSID value found.

[2013/08/27 14:45:37 | 000,000,000 | ---D | C] -- C:\ProgramData\MFAData
:Files
ipconfig /flushdns /c
:Commands
[emptytemp]
[Reboot]

• Push the Posted Image button.
• OTL may ask to reboot the machine. Please do so if asked.
• If the machine reboots, the log will be located at C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\mmddyyyy_hhmmss.log, (where mmddyyyy_hhmmss is the date of the tool run).
• A massage box Posted Image will pop-up.

• Click the OK button and a report will open.
• Copy and Paste that report in your next reply, please

Step 3.
Fresh OTL Scan

• Please right click on Posted Image Run as Administrator, accept UAC prompts.

Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
• Please check the box next to Scan All Users.
• And under Extra Registry check also the radio dial by Use Safelist :)

Posted Image

•Click the Posted Image button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

•When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL ~ Desktop

•Please copy (Edit ~> Select All, Edit ~> Copy) both the two logs it produces in your next reply. One will be open, extras.txt will be minimized on the taskbar.

Step 4.
WinDirStat

Please download and run WinDirStat

When the little pacmen have finished investigating the drive you will be presented with a visual image of your folders.
Locate the folder that is using the most space
If there is a + alongside that then click it to dig deeper
Highlight the offending folder and press Ctrl + C this will copy the path to your clipboard
Then right click the folder and select open
This will then open explorer to that folder.. Do you recognise it ?

Then open note pad and select paste... Post the file path in your next reply plus the size
And...
If you have snipping tool, which I think you do, save a snip of the WinDirStat window then upload it here when you post.
To do this:
1. Name it something related to the screen your capturing.
BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG otherwise it may be to big to upload.
Save it to your Desktop, that's the easiest place to find :)
2. Then after typing in any response you have here on the forum,
a. Click on Browse
b. Desktop......find the screenshot in the list
c. Select it
d. Click on the upload button.
e. Then on the lower left...after it says upload successful
f. Click on add reply like you normally would... That's it!

If you do not have snipping Tool, the once the WinDirStat screen is ready....
1. Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key (its on the top row..right hand side)
2. Now click on start -> all programs -> accessories then paint...
3. Left click in the white area of the paint screen and press CTRL + V
4. Click on file.
5. Click on save.
6. Save it to your desktop.
7. Name it something related to the screen your capturing.
BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG otherwise it may be to big to upload.
8. Then after typing in any response you have here on the forum,
a. Click on Browse
b. Desktop......find the screenshot in the list
c. Select it
d. Click on the upload button.
e. Then on the lower left...after it says upload successful
f. Click on add reply like you normally would... That's it!

Step 5.
Norton

Let Norton do a full scan.
Please post a copy Nortons log so I may see what if anything it finds.

When you return, please

1. OTL Fix Log
2. OTL log
3. Extras.txt
4. WinDirStat info. and jpeg
5. Norton log
6. Please let me know how it goes, and how your computer is doing.

23red,
I couldn't figure out how to disable Spybot so I just uninstalled it. I will get back to the other items on your list later today.
Thanks,

I am having trouble with step 4

When you say highlight the offending folder I did any column heading marked FOLDER but I did highlight by EXTENSION and Control C did not copy the path to mu clipboard. Nothing happens when I hit Control C.
Also, I am not familiar with snipping tool.

When I closed WinDirStat it said it might not have installed properly so I reinstalled it and ran it again but I got the same results -ControlC didn't work :(

PLEASE ADVISE.
Thanks,
Rich

Hi Rich

When I say highlight the offending folder, what is meant is highlight the largest folder, which is on the top left side of the WinDirStat screen. Leave the right side be, that's all of your file extentions. Our business right now is finding all your missing space. Those allocations are top left and the picture on the bottom. :)

Mine shown here:
Posted Image

If I were to just click on Windows, it would highlight the Windows section in the WinDirStat lower large picture.
If I were to right click on Windows it brings up a right click menu with Copy Path being the one to choose, and it will copy the line to my right click to copy to Notepad as such:
C:\Windows
or you can click on it which highlights it then click Control C then after that Control V when you've clicked onto a Notepad page to copy it to Notepad like so:
C:\Windows.
Either way works.
Control +C = copy
Control +V = paste

Posted Image

My largest folder aside from Windows is Users.
If I click on the + next to Users, it opens as so to see the folders inside.
My largest being C:\Users\Cinjo\VirtualBox VMs as I right clicked and chose Copy Path.

Posted Image

I get C:\Users\Cinjo\VirtualBox VMs

Do this with your largest folder, if can, Click the + 's to open find the largest maybe aside from Windows, take a snapshot also with Snipping Tool or PrintScreen and Paint so we may see what's taking all your hard drive space.

Snipping tool should be found going to
Start ~> All Programs ~> Accessories ~> SnippingTool
You can use it to highlight and take a picture of the page or any section of it. Basically you click where you want to copy, and drag to stretch until the section you want copied is how you want it.

I hope this helps. :) Let me know if you need other assistance. Please let me know how it goes. I await your reply :)

23red,
I'm sorry but it looks like OTL is my largest folder. WinDirStat says it's > 633.1GB (Windows is only using > 20.6GB). I don't know why but I can't figure out how to use Control C.
When I use Control C and paste all I get is what you see below:

C:\_OTL

I must be doing something wrong :(

C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\09022013_095928\C_\af[kNv[(GD9~0[([ap\pL([o277Hw(1=V]8+h

Can't figure out snippet tool.

Utterly frustrated

Maybe I'll try again later

C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\09022013_095928\C_\af[kNv[(GD9~0[([ap\pL([o277Hw(1=V]8+h

 Looks like the copy was fine!
And you said OTL is the largest folder. Hmmm.

Let's get a picture:

Using Snipping Tool

What your going to do is save a snip ~ a copy of the WinDirStat window then upload it here when you post.
To do this:

1. Have the WinDirStat window open large on the Desktop. You may have to run WinDirStat again to get it, not a problem. Please also click on the OTL folder so it's highlighted in the window.

2. With the WinDirStat window open and the OTL folder clicked on, click on SnippingToolto start the program.

3. Once open, it will shadow over or cloud your entire screen. And the window for SnippingTool will be open also and show New, Cancel and Options.

4. Active Snipping Tool turns your mouse cursor to a +

5. Starting in the top left corner, using a clicking dragging motion left click and hold from the top left corner of the WinDirStat window, then go down to the bottom right corner. This should highlight...and light up again the entire WinDirStat window. Let go of the mouse click once you get squared in the bottom right hand corner and presto!
If it does not come out well or complete, X that picture off, click New on the Snipping Tool window and try again.

6. A Snipping Tool window should open with a copy of your WinDirStat window in it.

7. Mousing over the top of the window, second choice from the left is Save Snip.

8. Name it something related to the screen your capturing. ie WinDirStat window.
BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG otherwise it may be to big to upload.
Save it to your Desktop, that's the easiest place to find.

9. Then after typing in any response you have here on the forum,

a. Click on Browse
b. Then Desktop......find the screenshot in the list
c. Select it
d. Click on the upload button.
e. Then on the lower left...after it says upload successful
f. Click on add reply like you normally would... That's it!

Apologies if my instructions were not detailed enough previously. Please let me know how it goes. I await your reply :)

Hi Rich :)
I'd like you to do something for me please :) When you rerun WinDirStat, can you please click the + by the OTL folder so as we may take a look inside? It looks as tho the space problem may be cured here, and we'd like to take a looksee. Quite intriguing, this is.

Also, in case you missed it earlier, there is another way besides Snipping Tool to capture and post the WinDirStat Window:

Once the program completes and the WinDirStat screen is open full screen, and the largest file + has been clicked and opened for viewing....

1. Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key (its on the top row..right hand side)
~ the picture is now held to paste...

2. Open Paint: Click on start -> all programs -> accessories then paint...

3. Left click in the white area of the paint screen and press CTRL + V

4. In the Paint window, click on File ~> Save As ~> A new window opens

5. In the left pane, choose Desktop so it will be saved to your Desktop, then in the bottom type in a name.
Name it something related to the screen your capturing.
For Save as type choose .jpg
BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG otherwise it may be too big to upload.

6. Then after typing in any response you have here on the forum,
a. Click on Browse
b. Desktop......find the screenshot in the list
c. Select it
d. Click on the upload button.
e. Then on the lower left...after it says upload successful
f. Click on add reply like you normally would... That's it!

Please let me know how it goes

23red,
Thank you for your patience. I was very tired yesterday. My brother got married on Saturday and I was very "tired" on Sunday. I don't use print screen or Paint so giving me very, very basic instructions was helpful.

The folder that starts with af(kNv(GD9 that is highlighted is so long that if I clicked on the + sign it would not all fit on the "print screen"
I couldn't find it on DESKTOP but I believe I attached it,WinDirStat.jpg
I hope they are attached.
Thanks for your understanding.
Rich

Hi Rich :)
Nearing the finish line here! After this, we should be able to clean out the rest and close up

I'd like you go to ESET and run an online scan. Once you get there, you will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Step 1.
Run ESET Online Scanner:

Note: Optimized for Internet Explorer, you can use Chrome or Mozilla FireFox for this scan.

You will need to to right-click on the either the Internet Explorer or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

Then:
•Please go here then click on:
Posted Image

•A new window will open:

Posted Image

Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on:

Posted Image

•When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.

Posted Image

Uncheck the box beside Remove Found Threats

Check the box Scan archives.

•Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:

Scan for potentially unwanted applications

Scan for potentially unsafe applications

Enable Anti-Stealth Technology

•Now click on: Posted Image

•The virus signature database will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.

•When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically. The scan may take several hours.

•Wait for the scan to finish. Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan. Otherwise it may stall.

When The Scan is Complete:

1. If No Threats Were Found:
•Put a checkmark in Uninstall application on close
•Close the program
•Report to me that nothing was found

2. If Threats Were Found:
•Click on list of threats found
•Click on export to text file and save it to the desktop as ESET SCAN.txt
•Click on Back
•Put a checkmark in Uninstall application on close Be sure you have saved the file first
•Click on Finish
•Close the program

Since Norton is off, I'd like you also to please run AdwCleaner :) before you turn it back on.

Step 2.
ADWCleaner

Please download AdwCleaner from here to your Desktop.

• Right click the Posted Image and chooseRun as Administrator

• Once it opens Posted Image

• Click the Scan button

• Let AdwCleaner run thru.....

• Once scan completes, it will open a window as such:

Posted Image

Check the tabs for any listed items you might want to keep (likely none, but please check to be sure)

• Select Posted Image

• It will remove all it finds.

• Once done it will ask to reboot, please allow this...

On reboot a log will be produced for you open on your desktop. It is also copied to C:\ADWCleaner[XX].txt. Please post the log in your next post.

We missed this one:

Step 3.

Step 4.

And for Step 4
Other than being full, how is your computer running?

When you return, please:
1. ESET results
2. AdwCleaner log
3. How is your computer running?

Hi Rich :)

It's not a problem ;) Minor setback. Malware can alter your proxy settings. If altered, it can affect your ability to browse or download tools required for disinfection.
Since I'm not positive which browser you are using for this, instructions are posted for both Internet Explorer and Firefox.
You have both, go ahead and do both.

Internet Explorer Proxy settings:

1. Open Internet Explorer ~> click Tools ~> Internet Options ~> Connections tab.

2. Click the LAN Settings... button and uncheck "Use a proxy server for your LAN"
or change the settings to the proxy you normally use if you previously reconfigured it.

3. Remove any unknown addresses from the Address box. 80 is the default Port so it does not have to be changed.

4. Click OK... then click OK again.

5. Close Internet Explorer and -restart- the computer.

6. An example of how to do this with screenshots can be found in steps 3-7 under the section Automated Removal Instructions...
In this guide.

Firefox Proxy Settings:

1.Open Firefox, click Tools ~> Options ~> Advanced and click the Network Tab.

2.Under the Connection section click on the Settings... button.

3.Under Configure Proxies to Access the Internet, check No proxy. This is the default option if you don't use a proxy.

4.Click OK... then click OK again.

Please then retry the ESET scan in Post 26

Let me know how it goes, please :)

Looking good

ESET ran fine, log attached
ran ADWCleaner, log attached

Thank you.

I have 880MB free of 681GB on my hard drive :(

By the time we're done, you will get most of your space back

It looks like my homepage is slightly different, but that is fine.

How so? If it's not as it should be or what you want, it's not fine. Which browser do you speak of, which do you use most ~ Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox? And what do you want your home page to be? I'm happy to help you set them as you'd like them to be.

Ran disable Windows Sidebar and Gadgets Fixit Utility

Excellent  One more vulnerability gone!

As for other vulnerabilities, I'd like you to please run SecurityCheck:

SecurityCheck by Screen317:

Please download Security Check by screen317.

•Save it to your Desktop.

•Double click SecurityCheck.exe and follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.

•A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please also post the contents of that document.

When you return, please:
