My homepage is stuck on sexyfinders.biz and it is driving me nuts. Here is my Log and I hope someone can help me out.

Before we start, I will need you to update Windows for me.

After that, I will need you to run a few processes and post a new Hijack This Log.

Let's start with a free program. Ad-aware.

Using Ad-aware: Open Ad-Aware and use the Check for updates now link. Download and accept the latest reference file. When finished click the Start button. When done scanning, the Abort button will change to Next. Click the Next button. Right-click in the Scanning Results window and click "Select all objects". Then click the "Next" button and confirm that you want to delete the selected entries.

When finished, Reboot your computer.

Spybot Search & Destroy Download and install. Start Spybot S&D using the "Spybot-S&D (easy mode)" link from your Start menu . Click the Search for updates button, if any are found then click the Download Updates button. After all updates are downloaded, click the Check for problems button. When the scan is complete, place a check next to anything marked in red, then click the Fix selected problems button. You may need to run Spybot S&D multiple times to remove all infections.

Finally, reply to this post with a new HiJackThis log so we can look for any nasties that may have been missed.

Hi coachwife6,
Thanks for your help

I followed all of your instructions and have the new hijack log.
I ran Spybot Search and destroy 6 times. Each time I got DSO exploit 5 entries. I would "fix it" but it kept coming up.

Also, internet explorer is showing up not witha web page, but with :C:\WINDOWS\system32\msblank.htm

I noticed that is part of my hijack log, possibly part of the problem?

Hi Coachwife,
A little knowledge can sometimes be a dangerous thing.

I had an Intel friend over today that knows a little bit about registries. He took out some lines that seemed to help somewhat. I no longer startup with my media player app loading. He couldn't get the first R0 HKCU line to change,which is the page that comes up when I open my internet explorer (Windows\System32msblank.htm) We checked it and rebooted 3-4 times and it always reverted back to the original. Also, I have two log ins on my computer. Would we have 2 different registries? Thank you for all your help.

Have you reset your home page? I know your probably have, but it never hurts to ask. One time I took the car in because the back doors wouldn't open from the inside. The child safety locks were set. So....just asking.

Also, did you clean out all your temporary files...start, all programs, accessories, systems tools, disc cleanup?

Spyware Doctor is not a well respected program, because it's suspected to be a ripoff of the free Ad-aware version, but I've never known it to install spyware. You should probably uninstall it, and if this entry remains, fix it.

VX2.betterinternet is tough to spot, but it doesn't usually create RO entries like this. Download the latest version of Ad-Aware from here (if you already have Ad-Aware installed, make sure that it is the latest version and always go online and update it before you run it).

How do you prevent spyware from being installed again? We strongly recommend installing SpywareBlaster (it's free for personal use).

Prevent the installation of ActiveX-based spyware, adware, browser hijackers, dialers, and other potentially unwanted pests.
Block spyware/tracking cookies in Internet Explorer and Mozilla/Firefox.
Restrict the actions of potentially dangerous sites in Internet Explorer.
Consumes no system resources.

Download, run, check for updates, download updates, select all, protect against checked. All done. Check for updates every couple of weeks. If you have any errors running the program like a missing file see the link at the bottom of the javacool page.

It's also very important to keep your system up to date to avoid unnecessary security risks. Click Here to make sure that you have the latest patches for Windows.

These next two steps are optional, but will provide the greatest protection.
1. Use ANY browser besides Internet Explorer, almost every exploit is crafted to take advantage of an IE weakness. We usually recommend Firefox.
2. Install Sun's Java. It's much more secure than Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine .
