HEEELLPP PLEASE! iPod not compatible with bluray/dvd dock

Hi, I have a Panasonic home theatre system BTT775 with the bluray/DVD player and iPod Dock. It will not recognise my iPod that I put into the dock - It says please connect a compatible device. It is an older (1st generation 2 gig) iPod so I was wondering if maybe it was too old for this system as my iPhone 4s works perfectly? Help please

we are having friends over tonight and really want to play music through our surround sound system and really don't have the patients to swap all the music off the iPod onto the iPhone
