Is buying WIndows 7 with XP mode worth it for gaming?

I am a gamer and I am looking into building a new PC. I am consider getting Windows 7 Pro or Ultimate so I can get XP Mode to better play some of my older games as well as my newer games. A few of these include, Star Wars Rebellion, Fleet Command, Age of Empires 2 and some of my older flight sim games from back in the day. How does XP mode do when running older games that did work on XP?
