Let me start by saying I do not have much experience with display port technology. I was under the assumption that it was basically a different physical connector for a signal similar to dvi or hdmi. Either way I had a dell optiplex 780 with an onboard DP port connected to an HP LA1905wg widescreen monitor using a DP to DVI adapter. This has worked for a while on a dual monitor setup (1VGA, 1 DP->DVI) until today when I accidentally bumped and broke the adapter. I didn't think this was a big issue, as I now have a straight DP to DP cable and the monitor mentioned above also has a DP port. However when I plug it in the monitor just stays black and says no signal, although the PC says it sees the 2nd monitor and extends the desktop as if its functioning properly. I tried another monitor (same kind as those are the only kind I have) and this is the only DP to DP cable I have. Have i set up something incorrectly, does DP to DP work via plug and play, or do I have a bad cable? Thanks for your help!

On some monitors you have to set which input port to use manually.

Thanks for the reply, and I did actually check manually setting it and with autoscan, with both it reported no signal.
