With a clean install of XP I can see no reason why IE should crash given that others in the house are able to use the Net without problems.

Where did you buy your new disc?
Did it come with a Certificate of Authenticity?
How much did it Cost?

Thanks for the link. I got the disc from a local PC repair and sale company. It is genuine microsoft oem disc. Though the cert of authenticity was removed on the perforation (as I did tell him that I didn't need as a had I got a new cert of authenticity and code for oem-xp from the microsoft helpline). I honestly don't think it is the disk.


I agree that IE shouldn't be folding after a clean install. This PC is really annoying ha ha. But we have given it a good crack so far.


I won't be back on for a few days as I've got to channel my time to college work for now and jfyi, I am ordering a mini-pc (Android) from Amazon to tide me over on Monday that my keyboard and mouse and monitor will connect to.


If you have any thoughts on how to carry on, I'll pop back on here in the next few days. Thanks for all your help Michael and Phil.. Much appreciated.

OK. When you get the time.
Go to control panel, windows update, make sure it is enabled. Leave the computer running for half an hour and see if the yellow shield appears in the notification bar. If it does, wait to see what happens.

Will get back with a possible fix for IE.


EDIT, Hoping your friends are still willing to allow the use of a windows 7 PC.
Please read the following info before you reply. We will be using this method to burn some files to a disc.

I didn't   (love the emoticons!)... But. Oh, how I wanted to though. I brought a windows 7 dell repair in the end to tide me over. It's doing a good job to be fair. Good to hear from you Michael. Thanks for the message
