K I used the new vista re and ran the repair. After restart I'm getting Hal.dll missing or corrupt now
Ok, repeat the step to restore the missing file:
sfc /scanfile=c:\windows\system32\hal.dll
Lets see if windows have a good copy of that.

When I go to the command prompt it has x:\Sources> at the command line
On the command prompt can you type:
c: dir
Does the dir command list some of your files and folders like windows, users, etc.?

i ran a chkdsk and now when i try and boot it says wdfldr.sys is missing or corrupt
Hum, the system is in bad shape.
Try to run a run SFC scan now because the last time it didn't run if I recall correctly.
sfc /scannow

It just brought up all the different commands in sfc
Make sure you type just like that, make sure you put the spaces between arguments.
