Tried the installs, but I already had the 2nd. Files in 2003 still opening fine. I have no prob w/ the files already in 2003-it's when there's a new file, like a pdf conversion, or some website, when it asks "Open with Word?" the default is 2007. I have created no files in 2007, so that's not really a problem. I guess they sent me the partial 2007, wanting me to buy it, so I can get the key, and I don't wanna play. And I don't use Outlook, so that's no big deal. Don't make yourself crazy with this. I guess I can live with it, but I sure wanted that disk space. Thanks

Office 2007 will make itself the default. The options I gave you before to change the defaults didn't work for some reason. I think your choices are as follows:

Uninstall Office 2007 and try a repair install for Office 2003. The activation key may not be asked for and all will go smoothly. However if things go wrong and Office becomes no longer available to you then you could use another program called Open Office which opens all word files.

Of course the choice is yours, but seems like the only option left to try. Office 2003/2007 may have suffered some corruption and need a repair.

Here are the instructions to try this out:


1. Uninstall

• Click Start then select Control Panel
• In control panel click Uninstall a Program or Programs and Features and uninstall the following:
• Microsoft Office 2007
  
  
  Repair Office 2003
  
• Once complete click on Office 2003 then select Change instead of uninstall.
• Click Repair then Continue. You may need to reboot.

Open Office

If all goes array then use this following link to download and install Open Office

How much do you want to spend and how valuable is the Data are the questions to ask yourself.

I'm not sure of the memory on this machine, but, in general, how much space would one need to backup to a memory stick, and yes, I have a lot of files, but I can get rid of alot, I'm just lacking the patience!! Thanks for all your help! HP Officejet 6500A 710a-f is giving me probs-tried to print your last post and it says "some functionality may be fubar" or whatever. It does this half the time???? And no, HP troublshooting site ****s. Bye!

Oh, I see. This time it did not print in grayscale, but did print without specifying any properties

This depends on what you have. You can hover the mouse pointer over a folder or file and an information window will appear stating the creation date and the size in MB or GB. 1000MB = 1GB. My GeeksToGo folder is 9.17MB





The Operating System takes up about 16GB.

So basically work out how much in GB you have in your folders.

For me I would go with something like 64GB as a minimum to save deleting to make room all the time.

As for printers sometimes updating the drivers can sort things out or a re-install.
