Hi Essex. Sorry that I have not been in touch or gotten back with you. I think I told you that I had the flu. But I really had a bad blood infection and have been hospitalized since last monday. I was in there until last night. I am still weak. Man, I dont want to do that again. Anyways my daughter brought my laptop to me on monday this week and I was able to use it. She said she used it a little the last week. It seems to be running pretty good and only hangs in internet explorer and not as often. I do notice something though. I tried to send an email to my adopted sons teacher and it keeps giving me an error message. I have always sent and received emails before with no problems so I am not sure what is going on. Anyways this is the error message An unknown error has occurred. Subject 'Jackson Bentley', Account: 'iCloud', Server: 'smtp.mail.me.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '334 ', Port: 587, Secure(SSL): Yes, Server Error: 334, Error Number: 0x80004005. Do you know what could be causing this. I want you to know that I certainly appreciate the help you gave me. I really am thankful and truely sorry that I ended up not being able to be in touch with you for a week. You have good blessings coming for what you do for others. This I know. Thank you again and if you can help with the email that would be great. Thanks again ColleenB

It appears that there was an error of some sort on the Icloud mail server

You need to ensure that the main settings for that account is as follows

IMAP (Incoming Mail Server) information:

Server name: imap.mail.me.com
SSL Required: Yes
Port: 993
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
Password: Your iCloud password

SMTP (outgoing mail server) information:

Server name: p06-smtp.mail.me.com
SSL Required: Yes
Port: 587
SMTP Authentication Required: Yes
Username: [email protected] (use your @me.com address from your iCloud account)
Password: Your iCloud password

How is the computer behaving now ?

Glad you are feeling better :)

Yep it appears that my outgoing server needed that p06- in front of it. Thats wierd because I havent touched those settings since I setup my iphone 2 years ago. But either way, it fixed it and I am grateful. About my laptop..... It seems to be running good now thanks to you. She should be gratreful considering you saved her from flying out the window. Thank you, thank you, thank you. I certainly appreciate the help and the time you have put into this. Thanks again and hopefully we can talk agian sometime on a better level. I am considering GeekU. I think I am going to check it out. Thanks agian for the help, ColleenB

In that case methinks I will send you on your merry way :)

Subject to no further problems :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and select uninstall

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

Clear Restore Points

Go Start > All Programmes > Accessories > System tools
Right click Disc Cleanup and select run as administrator
When it pops up at the first prompt select OK after it has done some calculations the tabs will appear
Select More Options tab
Press Sytem Restore and Shadow Copies Cleanup button

: Keep Java Updated :

WARNING: Java is the #1 exploited program at this time. The Department of Homeland Security recommends that computer users disable Java
See this article and this article.
I would recommend that you completely uninstall Java unless you need it to run an important software.
In that instance I would recommend that you disable Java in your browsers until you need it for that software and then enable it. (See How to diasble Java in your web browser and How to unplug Java from the browser)

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

If you use on-line banking then as an added layer of protection install Trusteer Rapport

It is critical to have both a firewall and anti virus to protect your system and to keep them updated. To keep your operating system up to date visit
To learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read our little guide How did I get infected in the first place ?Keep safe
