I am having trouble getting into Vista. Here is the long and short of it. I was infected with the MoneyPac virus where I was unable to even get to a DOS prompt of safe mode. Using the Kaspersky Recovery disk I ran the virus scan, infected files were located and cleaned. After that I rebooted Vista OS and I was brought to my user account selection screen, After selecting my account I never get to my desktop, all I get is a dimly lit blank screen. If I use task manager it seems I can access files and programs but I always have the blank screen in background.

Using Task Manager I ran a system restore -- no avail
I also was able to peruse my recovery partition and in an attempt to restore PC back to factory settings I received an "unidentified error" during the reformat process.

All I want is the PC back, I will re-install the OS, I don't have the original discs so that is not an option. Basically it seems everyhting works I just can't get to a desktop.

Any ideas?
