Problem with Explorer.exe

Hi, for a while now I have been having a problem with explorer.exe. Every once in a while it'll pop up saying "Explorer has stopped working" and then it will restart itself. Today I found this popup:

I've scanned for viruses in both normal and safe modes with no results. Sometimes the system will hang - like everything freezes and then the cursor freezes and won't move. The only programs I have that would affect the way explorer is working would be Dropbox.

Hi DrStiles :welcome:

Lets see...

Download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:
  • Flush DNS
  • Report IE Proxy Settings
  • Reset IE Proxy Settings
  • Report FF Proxy Settings
  • Reset FF Proxy Settings
  • List content of Hosts
  • List IP configuration
  • List Winsock Entries
  • List last 10 Event Viewer log
  • List Installed Programs
Click on Go.

Post the resulting log in your next reply.


also Check Windows System files integrity
  • open the Command Prompt as Administrator (Tutorial)
  • type the following command and press Enter:
    sfc /scannow
    Note: This may take some time to finish.

    if it say some errors are found and couldn't fix them do this:
  • In the command prompt window, type:
    findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\logs\cbs\cbs.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails.txt
  • Close the command prompt.
  • Attach to your post the sfcdetails.txt file that was just placed on your Desktop
  • You can safely delete the sfcdetails.txt file afterwards if you like

It seems you have a bad hosts file! Go to this Microsoft page download and execute the FixIt Tool and follow the on-screen instructions.

What can you tell me about the sfc scan result?

Hi,

It seems the Bonjour program isn't working properly you should try to remove the software and reinstall.

Is your Windows updated with all Windows Updates?

Your version of Java Runtime is outdated! and it makes you computer vulnerable. To update go to the Java download page and click from the link Windows Offline this file will not include any unneeded extras like the ASK Toolbar.


I would like to check some critical windows services...
