on the first three steps.. does the ROM zip need to be in any folder or just on the sd card? do i need to do step 3? what benefit will i get out of step 6?

1. Download the ROM zip file to your SD card
2. Reboot to CWM/TWRP
3. Do a factory reset (only needed if you were not previously running cm9 - herring)
4. Format /system (same as with factory reset, only needed if not previously running cm9 - herring)
5. Flash the ROM using CWM/TWRP
6. (Optional) Flash gapps-ics-20120429-signed.zip if you want the Market plus other Google apps.
7. Clear cache and dalvik cache, fixing permissions at this point is a good idea!
8. Reboot to the ROM

1. You can put it in any folder. You can navigate through the folders in Recovery Mode.

3. It is advised that you do a Factory Reset, the main reason being that a problem might arise (it had for me, during installation an error 24 came because older versions of the app were detected in the /data folder) when you try to install apps in the new ROM.

6. Google Apps contain the proprietary Google applications that come pre-installed with most android devices. Due to licensing restrictions, these apps cannot come pre-installed with CyanogenMod and must be installed separately. CyanogenMod does not require Google Apps to function properly, however, to take full advantage of the Android system, Google Apps are recommended. If you want to setup your Gmail account you will require this.

Please post back with how it goes. :)

i did as you suggested and currently restoring contacts, sms, pics etc now. i did try to take a pic with the camera app and it still did not work. i will advise to the status when all is back on this phone. i have read that this phone needs to be rooted before it can be unlocked. since we took care of that hwat sim unlock program do you suggest? on my original T959 would i need to root it before i can unlock it? this is the phone i had as back and have been using recently

in the q&a page 153 there was a link to [KERNEL]Proton Kernel build2[ICS][TFQ] for video issues.. did the cm-9 that i installed have a kernel in it or is that something else in need to do?

thanks

You already said that your phone was unlocked and rooted. You do not need to do it again.

hwat sim unlock program do you suggest? on my original T959 would i need to root it before i can unlock it? this is the phone i had as back and have been using recently

I did not get what you meant by this.

in the q&a page 153 there was a link to [KERNEL]Proton Kernel build2[ICS][TFQ] for video issues.. did the cm-9 that i installed have a kernel in it or is that something else in need to do?

Please give me a link to what you are referring to. You do not need to install a seperate kernel.

See if the Camera works through this app. Camera360 Ultimate

i apologize, i should have been more clear.. you are assisting me with an unlocked and rooted T969V (SGS 4G the new to me phone). my android i am using while we are fixing it in an locked and rooted T959 (i wanted a 4G one which is why i purchased the other one). I will be temporarily keeping the T959 as an emergency backup and was wanting to unlock it and use if if i go out of the country or decide to sent it to a friend out of the country

when i backed up everything from the working phone and restore it to the T959V, the text messages were in reverse order, lots of the music on Apollo either duplicated or triplicated themselves, some are in correct order others are in reverse order... any ideas? also many contacts duplicated themselves but i just went in an deleted them. with apollo i can only add to playlist but do not see a delete for anything but playlists

i thought when i restored the T959V back to factory that it had become sim locked and rerooted again.
