My apologies for the topic title - but this is the error that AVG is showing me. Consequently, I am unable to download ANYTHING - OTL, Word Docs, PDF files, etc. Will download, but after the "security scanning" is completed, all downloads show a security error that states a virus was found, and subsequently deleted.

I've never run across this before and I am tech-NO-logical...

I appreciate any assistance!

Many thanks,
Kerri

Hello kaedance and welcome to my office here at G2G! :)

My nick is maliprog and I'll be your technical support on this issue. Before we start please read my notes carefully:

NOTES:
  • Malware removal is NOT instantaneous, most infections require several courses of action to completely eradicate.
  • Absence of symptoms does not always mean the computer is clean
  • Kindly follow my instructions in the order posted. Order is crucial in cleaning process.
  • Please DO NOT run any scans or fix on your own without my direction.
  • Please read all of my response through at least once before attempting to follow the procedures described.
  • If there's anything you don't understand or isn't totally clear, please come back to me for clarification.
  • Please do not attach any log files to your replies unless I specifically ask you. Instead please copy and paste it to include the log in your reply.
  • You must reply within 3 days or your topic will be closed

Step 1

We will need clean PC and USB memory to download and transfer tools to infected PC. First we need to disinfect your USB memory so you can transfer files and not get infected.

Do this on the clean computer:

  • 1 - Flash Drive Disinfector
Download Flash_Disinfector.exe by sUBs from here and save it to your desktop.
  • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it and follow any prompts that may appear.
  • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
  • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
  • Reboot your computer when done.

Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you run it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Do this step only once and your flash drive will be protected from now on. Run all other tools on infected PC.

Step 2

Please download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to your desktop.

Note: You need to run the version compatible with your system. If you are not sure which version applies to your system download both of them and try to run them. Only one of them will run on your system, that will be the right version.
  • Double-click to run it. When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
  • Press Scan button.
  • It will make a log (FRST.txt) in the same directory the tool is run. Please copy and paste it to your reply.
  • The first time the tool is run, it makes also another log (Addition.txt). Please attach it to your reply.

Step 3

Please don't forget to include these items in your reply:

  • FRST.txt
  • Addition.txt
It would be helpful if you could post each log in separate post using "Add Reply" button
