Hello,

All members of GeekstoGo,

I have no idea of Web Development.Its like i'm a freshmen here. I have been into creative writing since long. I also have interest in photography and have huge collection of photographs pertaining Nature and Wildlife sphere. I want to establish a website of my own focusing on these two areas.Let me know every minutest detail about Website designing, development and all that follows. How to start and where to start..

Hi, there is many web development packages out there, it is very simple to create a website as-long as you know the structure of it. Front page 2003 was the only website developer that Microsoft produced, therefore it is a bit outdated but if you use a bit of java script and know your way around html it should be no bother to you. personally its the only program i have used since we use it at school, but even i can create a decent website and the best thing is, that its created to your own liking from scratch, you can get many java scripts online, and they all come with a help text. websites such as dynamic drive are good. You can also get templates to base your website structure on. if you don't have front page either you will be able to download it.,(Microsoft no longer supply it but you can get it online.)

As for online web designers i'm not to familiar with them. but why not give them a try as any i have used some and they are very simple too use, but just not to my liking.

i forgot to add that once you make your website it will have to be hosted i would recommend finding a good reliable company and host it with them for a small charge.

There is a very good program called JAlbum. It even writes the code for you. You have lots of Skins to choose from and all have options/preferences that can be set up. All you need is a free hosting site or buy a domain name and get paid hosting. Or, if you plan on selling:

First you need to buy a domain name and a shared server to host your website like in GoDaddy.com
I use Swish Max 4 software for my website. You can also join in their forum if you need some answer to your question related to your photography website. They are very nice and eager to answer any question related to your website project.

First you have to create mockup of your store pages. You need atleast these pages. 

• Home Page
• Product Page
• Products by Category Listing Page
• Product Search & Result Display Page
• Product Cart List and Check Out wizard (with anywhere from 1-5 steps involved within)
• Checkout and Payment Pages
• User sign up page & welcome screen
• My account, Profile Pages
• Shopping History, Wishlist Management pages

Wordpress + NextGen Gallery Plugin + lots of patience reading WP forums ))

 

And don't forget about site's security: have good quality passwords, keep them in safe place (I'm sure you don't want your work to be hacked or stolen by anybody).

 

Make a habit of regularly backing up (coping to safe place) your site's files and database. 

It's best to do it before any coding changes too -- at least until you get enough experience with your site.

 

And if you finally choose Wordpress as a platform, remember -- there plugins out there virtually for anything
