Hello,
Since the installation of a Windows update 1 week ago, impossible to open the PC anymore.

After a 1st screen with lots of figures, it stops in a window, saying that the PC didn't close normally last time, and proposes to open normally, or in safe mode or with last good configuration known.
With each of these options, I see then the Windows XP logo, than a blue screen (very fast), then it boots again, and gets back to the 1st step.

I could make a picture of the blue screen, where I read this : 'tentative of execution of a non executable memory' (it is in French, sorry if it is not exactly the same error in ENG...)
And I have read in some forum that other people experienced the same +/- at the same date, due to Windows Update KB2862330. But I couldn't find a solution for my problem.
I could read my hard disk by taking it out of the box and connecting it as an external HDD.

Can someone help me to recover my PC ?

Hi Jo

Power on the computer and start pressing the F8 key to access a menu like this one:



- select the option Disable automatic restart on system failure
- next select Start Windows Normally

Doing this you should be able to see the error you get on the Blue Screen.
Post the error because it could help diagnosing the problem.

I have already tried to do this, but I don't get the screen you show.
I get to a screen with 3 possibilities : (+:- as follows)
1) Boot from CD-ROM
2) boot from hardware
3) Recover from a recovery CD-Rom

Hi,

Sounds like the BIOS boot menu, you should have an option to boot from the Hard Disk, select that and start pressing F8 again.
Alternatively you need to press F8 during boot but just when windows is starting to load.

Yes the all blue screen have some data on it that can be important to diagnose the problem.

Did you try to boot using the Last Known Good Configuration option?

Do you have the Windows XP install CD?

Last known good configuration does the same : reboot
I only have à recovery Cd that will reinstall (if it works) the all Pc as it was when I bought it (long time ago...) and I would lose all the programmes installed.. If it is possible to correct the situation, it is a much preferred option, I am not sure that the PC has enough memory and all the rest to support à réinstallation of today's programmes

I could withdraw the HDD from its box and connect it to another PC as an external disk ( and it worked), maybe it opens other possibilities ?

Another question for you do you know if the Windows XP installed on the machine have Service Pack 3 or Service Pack 2?

Ok, lets check about the installed updates...

Can you connect the disk as external to another PC and check the inside the windows folder for sub-folders with names starting with $ and $NtUninstallKBxxxxxx (the xxxxxx are different numbers), please post the names of the most recent ones it could be several depending on the number of installed updates.

The folders to check are hidden, you have to adjust the Operating System to show Hidden and System Files if you need directions for this please post the Operating System you have on the other working machine.

The other PC runs on Windows 7 starter edition.
And indeed some directions could be useful to show these hidden files, I have never done it. But I will be next to my PC only this evening, around 10PM (now it is 1PM in Brussels)
