I have an Acer Aspire S253 Noteook PC, with an AMD C-50 1.00GHz Processor,
with 3 GB Ram, 64-bit OS. Windows 7 Home Premium
All my operations are slow, using my OS or Internet, which is a cable modem,
10 MB download speed. I use Malaware Bytes anti-virus program, with CC Cleaner and Wise Disc Cleaner regularly.

I see many commercial speed-up programs advertised and am prepared to buy one, but
1)will they help 2) how much 3) which one is the best and 4) if not, what can I do,
download to up the speed to at least as fast as the Wi-Fi my GF has when she uses her Notebook,
which runs off the router I had installed and connected to the Wi-Fi in the building.

90% of these commercial "PC FIX UP/SPEED UP" tools don't do much. There are also better free solutions. Slower speeds means more resources are being used. Uninstalling unneeded programs, stopping unneeded services, setting items you don't need to automatically have started to manual, keeping machine in order with disk cleanup/fragmentation utilities, keeping machine clean of temp/junk files, etc... These will all help. Beyond that, choosing a proper security agent is also key. Having something that runs heavy may not be the best for your machine, however you can't get something so light that it just isn't effective as well.

To help me understand your system better and make more appropriate decisions, I need to gather some intel. Please follow the below steps for me to do just that...  
STEP ONE: Intel Gathering - MiniToolBox
  • At this point and time I'd like you to get the utility MiniToolBox and run it with the following checked items.
    • Flush DNS
    • Report IE Proxy Settings
    • Report FF Proxy Settings
    • List content of Hosts
    • List last 10 Event Viewer Errors
    • List Installed Programs
    • List Devices
    • Only-Problems (leave it checked)
  • List Users, Partitions and Memory Size
  • List Minidump Files

    After you've just the above items, please then hit GO. Once it's done running, which normally doesn't take too long, it will have a text or log file pop up. Please copy & paste that into a reply.
STEP TWO: Intel Gathering - Autoruns
  • Please download Autoruns by Sysinternals. Once that has downloaded, please extract the files to a location of your choosing. Once extracted, I'd like you to run 'autoruns.exe'. You should see the Autoruns window open up at this time, in which we will give it a minute to fully populate the lists. After the lists have been populate I'll need you to save it as a text file, you can do this by following these steps:
  • Go to 'File' and select 'Save'
  • When saving change the 'Save as type:' to a 'Text (*.txt)' file type (you do this by dropping the list down using the arrow and selecting the file type by clicking on it).
Now that the file is saved, please locate where you saved it and open it up. Once you have the text file opened up, copy and paste all the content into a reply on here. STEP THREE: Temp File Cleaner (Good Practice)
As a good rule of thumb, I like to get rid of temp/junk files off any and all systems I work on. Reason being that I've seen some build up of caches and junk files cause all sorts of chaos on multiple occasions, so why not just take a few minutes to clean the PC up.However before you download and run the program, please make sure you save all work and close out of all programs accept your browser (which also will need to be closed down after the download, before running the program).

Now that we've saved and closed out of all your applications/programs, please download Temp File Cleaner (TFC). Once that is done, close out of all your open applications/programs and then please 'Right Click' and select Run As Administrator from the Context Menu. Please let this run, uninterrupted. Once it's finished, it may ask you to reboot your machine - If it does, please allow it to reboot at this time and after Windows loads back up move on to the next step. If it does not require a reboot, please move on to the next step now. However please take note of the red number, displaying amount of removals, and post it in a reply.  
Once you post back with all this, either myself or another tech/geek will be happy to assist you further.

I'm stuck on #2. I saved autoruns.exe to Downloads, but got autoruns.zip and no window appeared.

Well I have good news for step two, you don't have to do it! I also have some bad news and some information you should know... So here we go!  
WARNING: Multiple Antiviruses Installed
  • I've noticed you have more than one antivirus installed currently, in which we need to address at this time. Having more than one antivirus will not increase your security, it will likely do the exact opposite. The reason for this is due to the programs conflicting with one another, not to mention false positives generated from these possible conflicts. With this being said I'd like to review your currently installed antivirus programs (listed below).

    Currently Installed Antiviruses:
  • Microsoft Security Essentials
  • AVG 2014
WARNING: Person-To-Person Programs Found
  • After reviewing your previous post and logs, it has become apparent that you have downloaded some software through illegal methods. This may be done through person to person (P2P) applications/torrents or straight downloads from sites. Either way, I'd like to inform you of the risks of such actions and choices. Although there are legal torrents, more often than not P2P programs are used for illegal downloads and often times have very high risks.
  • A very large portion of common infections are spread through the downloading of torrents or other illegally downloaded digital items.
  • Although the P2P programs are not directly responsible for any of the infections, we highly recommend your remove them before continuing.
With that being said I'd like to point you to two articles that discuss the risks of P2P or file-sharing technologies in more detail, in which I hope you take the time to review before making the decision to keep or uninstall the P2P software from your machine. WARNING: Malicious Software Suspected
Due to the belief that malicious software (malware) may be at fault for your current issue(s), I need you to make a new thread in the appropriate section, to do so you need to first follow the procedures for creating an appropriate post/thread, which can be found HERE. Once you're ready to make the new thread/post, please post it in the appropriate section which can be found HERE. After you post, a malware removal expert will guide you through the process of removing any malicious software off your PC. Once they establish that your machine appears clean, if you are still having the issues come back to this thread and I or another techie will be more than happy to assist you further - However until you are deemed clean by an expert, we will not be able to assist you further.

When/if you post in the section discussed by my last warning... They will walk you through the proper steps for now only removing the adware/junkware found, but any malicious items as well. They also can help you properly determine which antivirus to keep, what needs to be updated and help you stay more protected with some recommendations. If after they say you're all good to go, I'd be happy to help you further with your slow PC/internet connection (if it isn't fixed by what they'd do).
