hi,

i dont know if this is the right place for my issue, im not even sure how to describe it. so here goes

i updated to mavericks from snow leopard, but before i did i backed up all my files to an external hard drive.

when i opened the hard drive to get the files later, about 5 folders and 12 word documents had been changed to aliases (the rest were fine and working correctly) and i couldnt open them anymore.

so i got pathfinder and tried the unchecking the alias bit under attributes, but it didnt work because now i can open the word documents, but its all in some kind of code that cannot be read by word.

also, unchecking the alias bit for the folders turns them into unix executable files.

for both of these kinds the creator is listed as MACS

anyone encounter this before?

im including 2 screen shots for you to check out...one is the information menu and the other is what the code looks like when i open up the doc in word

gregg!
