hi everyone out there in geekland..
i have problems again
computer slowed up again, it took ages to load web pages and programmes..so did a SAS scan and avira scan.
avira found two threats and quarantined them.
that didnt speed things up at all so i tried a system restore..the first restore point was corrupted so chose another one which worked
now it wants to install drivers for an unknown device (i have no devices plugged in) and when i click on the top box of the 3 that appear it freezes and i get a run dll ( or something like that) error and have to shut it down with task manager..
i know that this lappyosaurus ( dinosaur of the laptop variety ) is well past its sell by date but i cant afford another one so any assistance in resurrecting the old beasty would be muchly appreciated

Attach that file to your reply.

Close any open browsers!

Run MiniToolBox by double-clicking the icon

• Reset IE Proxy Settings

lappy is an acer aspire 5315 ( i know, its not my fault..its the only one i could afford )
system is showing 169 gb free of 232 gb...original HD was 60 gb ish but i swapped it for a bigger one when it ran out of space

Hi,

some errors are present in your event logs that need further investigation.

First there is an issue with Avira. Are you running a free or paid version?

Also I'm gonna need some more inforamtion about two internet-related files that are causing problems, so please provide me another report:

• Please download SystemLook by jpshortstuff from one of the links below according to your OS Architecture and save it to your desktop.
  SystemLook (32-bit)
  SystemLook (64-bit)
  
• Double-click the SystemLook icon to start the program;
  (Users of Windows Vista and above please right-click and choose Run as Administrator).
  
• In the empty main box please paste in the following:
  

  :filefind
  tcpip.sys
  eNetHook.dll
  

• Click Look.
  
• Wait until the Look button will be accesible again. A notepad window with the report should open (it will be also saved to your desktop).
  
• Paste the content of this file in your next reply.

• Our first step will be getting rid of avira.
  
  Uninstall it using control panel -> add/remove programs.
  In the following link you'll find uninstaller and how-to manual.

  Tell me about it's behaving after the removal.
  
  Also remember to replace it with something else. My recommendations:

  homepage & download of Avast
  
  
• This one will check for your critical system files.
  
  
• Go to Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click on Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator.
  
• Type in
  

  sfc /scannow

  and push Enter.
  
• Does it finish without any complaint?
  
• If it says it couldn't fix everything then, copy the next two lines:
  

  findstr /c:"[SR]" \windows\logs\cbs\cbs.log > \windows\logs\cbs\junk.txt
  notepad \windows\logs\cbs\junk.txt

  then Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> right click on Command Prompt -> Run as Administrator -> right click and Paste or Edit then Paste and the copied line should appear -> hit Enter.
  Copy and paste the text from notepad or if it is too big, just attach the file.

Heh...

Boot into SafeMode.

To enter the safe mode:

• Restart your computer,
• Upon Bootup, rapidly tap F8,
• Select Safe Mode and press Enter.

In SafeMode try to do something on your machine for a couple minutes. Watch its behaviour.
Faster/Slower? Descfribe it somehow.

Have you been using CCleaner recently?

Nonetheless I can't see what is causing your internet issues (I assume they persist). I'm gonna ask a colleague to step in here.

hi mate...sorry, forgot to mention the internet is back..no idea why or why it went off to start with...google seems to be really slow on startup but im wondering if its something to do with avast doing its startup thing..ill try the safe mode in a bit when ive a bit more time ...and no, i used ccleaner once and it confused me , havent got round to binning it yet

hello sleepy,
i have 2 computers connected to the same wifi router, laptop and pc..we also have 2 mobile phones which are connected on and off
the only vista discs i have are the ones i made when i changed hard drive, but i have used them to do a factory reset on 3 occasions ( its the easiest way to solve problems and get rid of lingering unwanted software )
